Hello Camp Jeanne d'Arc Community,
We are so happy that our campers have finally arrived at Camp Jeanne d'Arc! While day one was cool and wet, the weekend quickly turned to blue skies and sunshine as the campers got settled.
Here are some highlights to week one:
How Campers Get Settled
Here are some ways we create a sense of belonging for first-time campers:
-
Cabin bonding. Our staff and counselors are very well-prepared for day one activities. Campers engage in ice-breaker activities incorporating a tour of the grounds and eat meals within their cabin groups.
-
Feather picking. Within the first week, we conduct our century-long tradition of picking a white or blue feather to determine whether the camper will be on the Les Pucelles or Jolis Coeurs team. Campers dress in white and blue and enthusiastically welcome newcomers to their team!
-
Milk and cookies with the Owl Cabin. We pair each of our oldest campers (the Owls) with a cabin to deliver milk and cookies at the end of the day. The Owls bring the treats and stay in the cabins for some time to bond with the younger campers.
Jolis Coeurs and Les Pucelles Team Captains!
One of the ways Camp Jeanne d'Arc creates opportunities for leadership development is through team captains. And it goes beyond cheering the loudest and winning the Les/Jolis games. Leadership is a skill that is development thoughtfully at Camp and values inclusion and kindness, acting on behalf of the community, speaking authentically, and nurturing what we call "camp spirit" -- faith, endurance, courage and confidence. Congratulations to this season's first half team captains and adjutants Cassie and Sloane for the Jolis and Phylicia and Anna for the Les!
