We love fall, but we're already dreaming about summer in the youth department! Any youth at PHUMC will tell you--there is no better way to spend that time than a learning or service trip with our youth group! Below you'll find the big trips and experiences throughout the summer we know you will love.

Please keep in mind, some of these programs will fill quickly!

Our full summer calendar with local dates will be released in the spring. We can't wait for summer at PHUMC!!!

One of the commitments of the youth ministry at Pulaski Heights is preparing our young people to be faithful Christian leaders in a complex world. May 24-27 we will be taking a road trip to through Oklahoma to learn about the history of racism towards different people groups. This will be a small, intimate trip of 13 students and 2-3 adults. We'll be exploring this history at various museums and sites, staying at local United Methodist Churches, and having tender and empowering conversations about how to be an inclusive and informed Christian leader in our own communities and schools.

This commitment is aligned with the mission of the United Methodist Church to raise life-long learners and leaders committed to the inclusivity and community connection of local churches. Little Rock is a unique environment with our history, the structure of our city and its zoning, and the complexity of school choices our families face. In addition to some heavier conversations, we'll be having some fun cultural experiences in the cities where we are stopping!

With the help of the PHUMC Foundation, the flat fee for this trip is $100. Scholarships are available. This experience is for 7th thru 12th graders (grade for the current academic year 2026-2027).

The role of youth on the trip is to learn from the medical team, and support their work in the form of physical set up, and working with children and families receiving care.

We are excited to offer a brand new trip this summer!

Be the Neighbor Kansas City is a service and learning trip for students completing 8th-12th grade.

At Be the Neighbor, we will experience a Justice 101 introduction to Kansas City. We will travel Sunday and begin on Monday with an all-day service experience in Kansas City's Historic Northeast, opening our eyes to the realities of economic, housing, and food injustice in the area. Our group will also explore the city's history of racism and meet with representatives from various metro racial and economic justice coalitions. We will serve alongside Kansas City's refugee and immigrant population and learn about the struggles facing the public education system (there are 15 different school districts in Kansas City, MO, alone). Throughout the week, we will spend time intentionally reflecting on the mosaics of our own home, the lines drawn here in Little Rock, and how we can take lines of division and weave them into new and beautiful stories of healing through our collective work for justice.

Our group will explore how the topics we're learning about relate to our own community and develop a plan for how we can continue this work when we get home. Be The Neighbor is a learning and launching trip, meaning participants will leave the week equipped to live lives of love, service, and justice in ways that are relational, sustainable, and dignity-affirming!
