Dear friends:

So much is happening in Louisiana, and of course, New Orleans. August 29 is the anniversary of Hurricanes Katrina and Ida. We have been through a lot.

Next Friday, September 8, from 5-7pm, we are hosting a campaign Meet & Greet/"Essential Items Collection" at Urban South Brewery. This is a great opportunity for friends and supporters to meet up (kid friendly!) while also donating items for unhoused women in New Orleans. I know that you will help to make it successful.

Reminder, when a candidate calls for your support, ask them: (1) Why are you running? (2) How will you do a better job than the incumbent or other candidates? (3) What are your connections to the district? How long have you lived in the districtIf you ever need background on my work as a legislator, click here for a cheatsheet or visit my website's legislation tab.

The interns and I knock and call people daily, deliver shirts and signs, fundraise, & so many other tasks. In between, I work as a lawyer & continue performing my duties as a state legislator.  Please sign up here or email me if you have some time to help. I hope that you agree that my continued presence in Louisiana politics is a win for our city and state.

I will soon have to spend on mail and paid social media. Small donors are my lifeline. Please consider a bigger investment. I'd be happy to call you and discuss.

IMPORTANT ENDORSEMENTS

Endorsements can be important - it just depends on the organization! I have received endorsements the GNO AFL-CIOVOTE (Voice of the Experienced), and the Alliance for Good Government. These groups help with boots on the ground, some with money, some with media. They are respected and they truly support their candidates. Labor has been with me since day one - they have always believed in me! I have teamed up with VOTE on many criminal legal system bills, most related to health care and /or incarcerated women, to name a few. And of course, Alliance is a longtime respected political organization that is very thoughtful about their endorsements.

Thank you to my forever family the Greater New Orleans AFL-CIO for their third endorsement. They’ve been with me - and my family - since day one. My dad was a member of Local 60 P&S, and they later helped out when he was sick. These guys believed in me since the very first day I told them I was running in 2019. They haven’t left my side since. Special thanks always to the Building Trades.

RE-ELECT CAMPAIGN & YOUR OCTOBER BALLOT

We continue to canvass and phonebank, depending on this extreme weather. My campaign manager Alex is knocking it out of the park, surpassing all of our door and call goals. We will start mail and targeted media VERY SOON - which is why I need your help with a contribution. Both are (1) necessary and (2) expensive. If you'd like to co-host an event, email us at [email protected].

I'm really looking forward to the Meet & Greet/Essential Items Collection next Friday, September 9, at Urban South. Bring the kids and some items to donate to unhoused women. I received a special request a few weeks ago to collect these donations, as we have done on prior campaigns, after Dobbs, and after Ida. Living on the street is very hard for anyone, but women have additional needs, such as bras, feminine products, sanitary wipes, even simple things like a hairbrush. Please drop some off and if you miss the M&G we can pick them up from you later on. I will be working with the city to distribute the donations.

Don't forget about sunglasses if you want some! While "I'm with the Good Landry" is the troll on our current sunglasses, in 2019 the funny Mason Hereford of Turkey and the Wolf nicknamed me "#thefreshlandry." Because who wants a rep who is old and dusty? (Get yourself a sign and a very soft t-shirt too, while you're at the link.)

Your New Orleans ballot will be small, with statewide races dominating. The governor's race.......is difficult to watch. The attorney general's race now has four candidates, including Liz Murrill, yes that Liz Murrill who argues all of the state's bad abortion laws all the way to the Supreme Court and also - Ramos (unanimous juries). If you're still reading this, please donate to Lift Louisiana, because it's Lift and specifically Ellie Schilling who have opposed her for years. And if you're truly still here, check out Lift's statewide polling on abortion (hint: voters aren't as crazy as electeds).

HEAT AND WEATHER

We are facing extreme heat in Louisiana and because of that: the worst wildfires we've had in a long time, stretching to about 30,000 acres. State officials have demanded NO BURNING as everything is dry, although we had a bit of rain in New Orleans this week.  A colleague in Leesville sent this photo a couple of days ago. He said that no one has been hurt, but it was a close call.

Florida is being hit with a major hurricane. They will need help.

The Marathon refinery blew up and it is ugly.
