"Happenings"
at Indian River Colony Club
D-Day - On June 6, 1944, more than 160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline, to fight Nazi Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France. Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower called the operation a crusade in which, “we will accept nothing less than full victory.”
More than 5,000 Ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion, and by day’s end, the Allies gained a foot-hold in Continental Europe. The cost in lives on D-Day was high. More than 9,000 Allied Soldiers were killed or wounded, but their sacrifice allowed more than 100,000 Soldiers to begin the slow, hard slog across Europe, to defeat Adolf Hitler’s crack troops.

IRCC Artists in Residence
Featured Artist, Pat Dugan
by Luanne Faulkender
Patricia Dugan was born in Long Island, NY. Her earliest memory of art was having her hands slapped by Nuns during her first grades for doodling in class. Everything changed once she attended a public school that encouraged completing studies before going to the art room with all its art supplies her idea of Heaven. She continued to have her hands in art and crafts through school and ended up graduating with a BS and then her Masters and taught art.
Once she and Bob married, the Coast Guard took them to Honolulu, Hawaii where eventually her artistic nature canvased her neighborhood for art lovers and/or students. “I did this with a baby on each hip,” she laughs, “but soon our community was involved in wonderful creative projects.”
“Bob was my partner in many ways. He was a marketeer and did printing, promoting and traveling to shows”, she said lovingly.
Lighthouse renderings is another of her specialties. I must say to interview Pat is a lovely journey through Creative-land without an end!

Using the most basic of elements to create works of beauty, these featured artists love to play in the muck. The results are surprising and wonderful, items of both visual beauty and also of everyday service. This is work to remind you that all we have comes from earth and even the most lowly of forms of that earth can be transformed into the most beautiful and useful pieces of 3D art.

"Along with year-round warm weather and ample public beaches, the Melbourne metro area also is home to Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center," the report said.
"If you're interested in playing a bigger role than just watching rockets launch into space, plenty of aerospace employers accompany other large companies in the health care and manufacturing fields."
