This 6-week series promises to strengthen the body both inside (through the breath) and out (through the postures). Pranayama is the formal practice of controlling the breath, and using breathwork with the poses is a powerful combination. Participants are encouraged to listen to their bodies and do what feels right to them. Class is limited to 12 participants. Bring a yoga mat and a cushion or pillow to sit upon, and a water bottle. You don't have to sign up for the entire 6-week series, but if you do, you will be gifted with a free Craniosacral treatment from Kristin. She describes craniosacral work as a gentle, hands-on approach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance. Vermont Reads Activities
Our Yearly, Statewide, One-Book Community Reading Program is in full swing
with Bread and Roses, Too by Vermont Novelist Katherine Paterson.
The library has copies of this historical fiction relating the 1912 "Bread and Roses" strike in the textile mills of Lawrence, Massachusetts as told through the eyes of Rosa,
an Italian-American girl.
Rosa was sent to Barre, Vermont to keep her from harm's way during the strike. We visit Barre as part of our "Bread and Roses" theme. (See details below).

Come into the library and check out your copy of Bread and Roses, Too. ink to Additional Resources
FIELD TRIP TO THE
Rock of Ages Granite Quarry
Wednesday, August 22nd, 9-2 pm
ROCK OF AGES IS NORTH AMERICA'S PREMIER GRANITE QUARRY
AND MANUFACTURER.
Barre, Vermont is featured prominently in the second half of Bread and Roses, Too, as is the granite industry. In conjunction with our Vermont Reads book, we visit Rock of Ages to learn of quarrying and the manufacturing of granite. The guided quarry tour takes you to an overlook of the Smith Quarry (featured above), the largest operating deep-hole, dimension granite quarry in the world. It is nearly 600 feet deep.

Our bus leaves the library at 9 am and will return by 2 pm. Sign up deadline is Wednesday, August 15th. Call 244-7036 to register.

For ages 6 and up. Children must be accompanied by a care-giver.
Sign up for a half hour one-on-one appointment to learn how to download free digital magazines, audio and e-books from the library.
