Earlier this year, KDB received a $5,000 Cigarette Litter Prevention Program grant from Keep America Beautiful to increase our local efforts to end cigarette litter. Join us at a ribbon-cutting ceremony and kick-off event for these receptacles, as well as upcoming education efforts, on Thursday, June 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the Civic Center (321 E McKinney).

KDB Celebrates the 2018 Graduating Class of Citizen Foresters CAD
We recently hosted the last class of our 2018 Citizen Forester Training, which included a final "graduation" for our 22  students. Our newest Citizen Foresters completed their required 36 hours of training in planting, pruning, and maintaining trees in urban environments.

The foresters were honored at the May 22 Denton City Council meeting with a Proclamation made by Mayor Chris Watts.

So, what's next for these newly trained tree experts? They'll now put their knowledge to work with local city and county agencies to help take care of the community's public trees.

Congratulations to our 2018 Citizen Foresters!

June's Yard of the Month WinnersYOTM
910 Archer Trail - Elaine and Ron

Gardening is Elaine's "pride and joy" but she says Ron will help out, too, by offering to mow!

908 Regency Court - Bridget and Chuck

What makes this home distinctive is the color and use of native plants. The landscaping stands out from other homes on the block. Gardening is a family effort inspired by their children who want a greener environment. Chuck and Bridget want to leave their home better than when they moved in. They are a military family and very proud of what  they have accomplished.

They use drip irrigation and lots of Texas natives, which include sage, salvia and sedum.

3045 Brandywine
800 Crescent - Doris

Doris uses native plants as frequently as possible in her part shade/part sun garden. Her landscape includes coneflowers, yarrow, and butterfly bush. Birds enjoy the bird feeder and trees. Butterflies enjoy the many pollinators. Doris uses a layer of mulch throughout her garden. Her two daughters assist her in gardening. They are installing an irrigation system.
2105 Denison- Julie and Ryan

This couple just moved in a month ago, so they are learning how to care for their garden in both the front and back. The front is mostly native plants with blackberries and an orchard of cherry and apple trees. The back is deep and very private. Half of it is in the sun and houses a very large veggie garden; the shade half is full of wonderful old trees.
