August 6, 2024

For many, these final weeks of summer are the "last hurrah" before back to school, back to business -- and back to Eagles (and Penn State) football.  Here at CCEDC, our final weeks of summer mark the beginning of our FY 24-25 fiscal year. We have plenty of exciting ideas for what’s ahead but, as we plan, always appreciate hearing from you, our stakeholders. What’s keeping you up at night?  What trends and opportunities have you charged up for 2025? Are you having any challenges with infrastructure? Has it gotten any easier to attract and retain talent? Are your employees or family members having trouble finding a home in Chester County? We’d love to hear from you on these subjects or anything else that’s on your mind!

In the meantime, check out some of our recent highlights below and keep an eye out for new features in our e-newsletter. This month we introduce our “How We Help Businesses” section. In this first edition, we are reminding you of our four key service areas and inviting you to reach out if we can help. Now, Let's scroll...

Groundbreaking Achievement

Berwyn Fire Company

The Berwyn Fire Company hosted a groundbreaking celebration for a new facility to replace their 95 year-old Main Station in Easttown Township. A second phase of the project will create a permanent station in Tredyffrin Township.

CCEDC and CCIDA are administering a Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grant that was secured by the Berwyn Fire Company.

Piasecki Partners to Upgrade Helicopters in Coatesville

Last month, Piasecki announced a strategic collaboration with Columbia Helicopter to upgrade existing Model 107-II helicopters to the new, more fuel-efficient, powerful and reliable Columbia Model CHI-107-III configuration.

A little more than a year ago, Piasecki Aircraft Corporation acquired the former Lockheed Martin Sikorsky Heliplex facility in Coatesville. This move is expected to add hundreds of jobs over the next several years and turn the 219,000 square foot facility into an advanced R&D center for next-generation Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft, and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). Piasecki also plans on building and testing its PA-890 helicopter, which would be the world’s first zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell rotorcraft.

CCEDC’s is proud to have helped Piasecki identify this site and provide financing in the form of a PIDA loan.

Summer Camp Highlights

July brought fresh faces to CCEDC's offices as we hosted nearly 40 students at our STEM Innovation Summer Career Academies.

The 10 to 14 year-old age group explored medicine and business through activities focusing on weather, TV news, forensics, animal science, and nursing. Campers participated in hands-on activities such as suturing, animal bandaging, as well as making their own bubbles and elephant toothpaste. A highlight was when our camp was featured by Bob Kelly of Fox29. He joined us and donned scrubs to interact and engage with our campers.

Meanwhile, our 15 to 17 year-old campers went on a week-long medical excursion where they visited Immaculata University, Good Fellowship Ambulance Company, Garrett Williamson Farm and more to learn about a variety of healthcare careers and pathways.

Check out some of the Summer Career Academy highlights on the right!
