From the Director's Desk...
|
The theme for this summer's reading program is "Oceans of Possibilities." I love the ocean. That is, I love the shore. The beaches along the east coast of the United States are very beautiful. Going to the shore used to be a family must every summer. When I was young, my parents owned a small beach house on the Jersey shore. I remember playing in the sand and frolicking in the waves with my sisters, brothers and Daddy. At the beginning of summer that annual trip to the beach opened "oceans of possibilities" for us kids - lazy days of reading on the beach, splashing in the waves, body surfing, playing frisbee, sneaking off to the boardwalk to play the arcade games, or riding the Ferris wheel that loomed ahead of us.
I miss the beach. My husband's family has a house in upstate New York near a small lake, so when I married, I guess I got a lake vacation instead of a beach one. I think I will see if I can get a reservation for a long weekend at a beach somewhere this summer. Possibility? If not, I will just read a beach book by the lake!
Join us here at CPL for Oceans of Possibilities this summer! We'll have something for everyone - adults, too!

"People of the Fields"
by Barbara Masterson
Meet the Artist
June 1 - 3:00pm
A Drop-In Event
In late May of 2015 while painting en plein air on a local farm, Barbara Masterson began adding the migrant workers to her work. At first they were faceless figures in the fields. Over time, they became prominent in her compositions. These workers are some of the “faceless” people that impact our lives. Often they remain unseen and unknown despite their presence in our Valley for many months each year. Getting to know and then paint them has transformed Ms. Masterson and her work. Her large-scale drawings and paintings have transitioned to portraits of these men and women that our society often treats as invisible.
Ms. Masterson's work will be on display in the Library Community Room through July 14th.
