As the practice of academic coaching grows and spreads to more institutions and across more categories of higher education, how coaching is defined becomes more important, even as the practice itself takes on a greater variety of iterations. When an institution understands the value of coaching and decides to commit to providing this service for some or all of its students, one of the most productive actions it can take is to unify its definition and practice of coaching across the departments and divisions. In this way a culture of coaching can be built, such that students encounter a consistent coaching philosophy throughout their experience, giving them the best opportunity to integrate the practice of coaching into their own minds, habits, hearts and lives.
Building on the LifeBound three-day training in inclusive coaching, the LifeBound Certification course is highly experiential, designed to provide cohort members a structure to put their learning into active practice. In addition, the experience provides cohort members regular opportunities to observe others as they coach, an important learning tool that is rarely available in the workplace, given that coaching takes place largely in a 1-on-1 or 1-to-many setting.
LifeBound offers certification cohorts in the fall (Sept-Dec), spring (Jan-Apr), and summer (May-Aug). All meetings are on Zoom. The three-day training is a prerequisite. Summer certification cohort begins at the end of May and includes the following meeting dates:
Tuesday, May 28 – Kickoff
Tuesday, June 25 – Session I
Tuesday, July 23 – Session II
Tuesday, August 20 – Session III
Tuesday, August 27 – Capstone session
