Dear Friends and Supporters,
We trust you are staying safe and healthy during these long summer days of searing heat and humidity.
June at Macon Volunteer Clinic opened on a bright note, when members of Mercer School of Medicine’s graduating class brought to us a donation. They were accompanied by Endocrinologist Candi Nobles-James, an associate professor. She doubled our joy by informing us that beginning in July, she will volunteer her specialty services to our patients! This is a significant enhancement to our delivery of care, as many MVC patients have diabetes, as well as other endocrine disorders. Thank you, Dr. Nobles-James!
Another exciting development for MVC is that Acupuncturist Monica Garcia-Jones, DAC, LAC, will begin offering her services here this August! Used for thousands of years in traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture has become part of mainstream medicine today – primarily for pain management. As a clinic that does not offer opioid prescriptions, MVC is pleased to add this alternative option to its patients. Thank you, Dr. Garcia-Jones!
We previously shared that eligible Twiggs County residents are now welcome to make MVC their medical home. Our staff have been busy reaching out to spread this good news. Cathy Loyd spoke to the Twiggs County Chamber of Commerce in early June, and Trish Mitchell and Mara Brumbaugh participated in a Live Well Twiggs health fair at Jeffersonville Elementary.
Lack of health insurance is the single greatest impediment to access to healthcare in the U.S. Uninsured people are less likely to receive medical care, more likely to die early, and more likely to have poor health status. Thanks to your generous support, our uninsured neighbors have access to healthcare through Macon Volunteer Clinic. We focus solely on the issues and needs of medically underserved adults in Bibb and Twiggs counties. When they no longer must choose between paying for food and a place to live, or going to the doctor and getting their needed medicines, it is a win for all.
Here’s wishing each of you an enjoyable Fourth of July holiday! And thank you for giving our patients the freedom to access primary care!
Warmest regards,
Nancy White
