Message from GMR President
Alessandro Iuppa
I trust by now you have retrieved your Porsche from winter storage and are enjoying all that Vermont has to offer in the way of twisty turns and scenic byways. As we transition from Spring to Summer I would like to update you on various GMR activities and events.
The GMR Board Could Use Your Help
Do you have an interest in helping to take the Green Mountain Region to the next level? If so, please consider joining the GMR Board of Directors. The Board is comprised of volunteers and our successes (and shortcomings) are wholly dependent on those volunteers. Among the Board’s responsibilities are oversight of the club’s governance and facilitating the GMR various activities including driving tours and social events. If you would like to be considered for a Board position or would like more information about Board activities please drop an email to me at gmrpca@gmail.com.
2023 Calendar Update
The next driving tour, led by GMR member Ilan Weitzen, will take place on Saturday, June 24 featuring Vermont’s famed North East Kingdom. The tour will explore some of the most remote and least-traveled areas in Vermont, with stunning mountain and valley views along the way. There will be plenty of twists and turns to enjoy some spirited driving. This tour will deviate from our usual GMR tours in terms length (143 miles) and is limited to 15 cars given the logistical constraints of the North East Kingdom.
In July the Green Mountain Region is partnering with Vermont Cars & Coffee, Vermont Automobile Enthusiasts and Rennline Inc for two special events on July 15. We’ll kick off the day (7.00am - 9.00am) at Vermont Cars and Coffee’s Porsche Day at the University Mall in South Burlington. If that is not enough then plan to join us at the Rennline, Inc. open house in Milton (10am - 2.00pm). While not a GMR event, WOLFSGART is hosting its Northeast automotive event, car rally, and all weekend camping event in beautiful Vermont. This event features Volkswagen, Porsche, Audi, BMW, Mercedes and much more! For more information, check out their website at https://wolfsgart.com/aboutus/
On August 12th GMR members Lee and Brenda Roy have generously offered to host, once again, our 2023 GMR PotLuck Picnic at their lakeside home in Colchester. The details are still in the planning stage, so be sure to save the date and check back for specifics. If you are looking for an excuse for an extended road trip you might consider heading to Lime Rock Park on Saturday, August 5. The Connecticut Valley Region is hosting Porsches @ The Rock which will include a day of Drivers Education, AutoX, a Porsche Cars & Coffee as well as a Porsche-themed Swap Meet. And, lastly but not least, on August 11th-13th the Vermont Automobile Enthusiasts (VAE) are hold their Antique and Classic Car Meet at Farr Field in Waterbury, Vermont.
The Green Mountain Region Annual Meeting will take place on October 21 at the historic Coolidge Hotel, 29 South Main Street, White River Junction. Looking towards December 9 when we will host the Green Mountain Region Holiday Gathering at the Idletyme Brewery in Stowe.
We are also exploring the possibility of additional driving tours/events in August, September and October. If you are interested in sharing your favorite Vermont roads by leading a GMR driving tour please let me know via email (gmrpca@gmail.com) or give me a call at 207-409-0773. Doing so is easier than you might think with plenty of support from board members. We will work with your schedule.
See you soon!

Green Mountain Porsche Club Member John Galt Describes the Fun and Thrills at Parade 2023 in Palm Springs, California!
PIctured left: John and Sandra Galt with their 992 GT3.
(Editor's note: We asked GMR member John Galt, who is attending this year's Parade (June 18-24) in Palm Springs, to tell us what it's like. Here's his report and some photos.)

Parade 2023
For me it’s all about the people, the cars and the open road. I can’t add much on some of the other events that took place because I’m happiest when I am behind the wheel, on a great road, with a group of like minded people.
We arrived at the La Quinta resort mid afternoon Sunday, June 18. The place was teaming with Porsche enthusiasts. The display of cars in the parking area covered all generations and types of Porsche cars. As always it was the enthusiasm of the people and our shared love of our cars that brought us together. Our first impression was very positive. After the last few years of forced isolation it was so rewarding to see so many people, from all parts of the country, come together to share an experience, the love of our cars and each others company. Many thanks to all the volunteers to help make events like this one a success. We all owe you a debt of gratitude.
Early in the morning we met at the beautiful PGA West Pete Dye Mountain Golf Course and were organized into groups based upon tour routes. In our case we were in assigned to group one, and soon departed for Big Bear. After a necessary but uninspiring stint on I-10 towards LA, we left the highway and spent the next 45 minutes climbing 6700 feet through endless switchbacks and towering pines. I can confirm that the 992 GT3 was clearly not tuned to excel on California's bumpy, transport truck -filled construction zones locally referred to as Interstates. I can also confirm that the GT3 will quickly leave any memory of the Interstate behind when roads start to climb and one switchback leads to another and another. I was reminded once again today why I love 911’s; where other cars start to encourage you to back off, a 911 and especially a GT3 become more composed and beg for more when the road gets twisty.
After a beautiful, sunny tour of Big Bear Lake aboard the Miss Liberty Paddlewheel boat, the formal tour was complete. A small group of us decided to take a different route back to the Coachella Valley, down the other side of the mountain on Route 18, to Route 247 through the high desert. As the curves gave way to long straights we were able to let the cars breathe and stretch their legs. The tall pines gave way to cactus and desert shrubs. The mountains, still majestic, turned from green to brown. Hearing a naturally aspirated 4 litre Porsche flat six rev to 9000 rpm is something all of us long to experience at some point in life. Everyone was having the time of their life.
After stopping for a great Mexican dinner at Las Palmas on Route 62, and enthusiastically sharing stories of the days experiences, we headed back to rest for the evening.
Tomorrow the GT3, together with its brothers and sisters, will be back in its element. We will climb 5000 ft up Route 74, affectionately known as the Palm to Pines highway with its endless switchbacks on our way to Idyllwiild for lunch. Afterwards a few of us will snake our way down the mountain on Route 243 to Banning. The man behind the steering wheel will be brought back to the day he saw his first 930 at the age of 16 and dreamed that some day he would pilot such a machine down a twisty mountain pass.
Later in the week we will assemble for the Parade of Porsches. Who knows, maybe along with all the other beautiful Porsche cars a 1976 930 might be found.
Amazing, over the course of several weeks we have gone from enjoying Vermont's beautiful Green Mountains with the GMR Porsche Club to enjoying some the best California has to offer with PCA members from across the country. As they say, life is good.

Want your spouse or partner to also get these
Green Mountain PCA Newsletters?
When you joined PCA (recently or forever ago) you no doubt listed your partner or spouse as a co-member. Many co-members however have not provided their email addresses. If your spouse/partner would like to receive the Mountaineer as well as yourself, have them call PCA HQ at (410) 381-0911 and give PCA the information. It only takes a few minutes as PCA is very efficient. That way you both will receive The Mountaineer and other pertinent club emails.
If your co-member remembers his or her co-member login (it is separate from the main member) you can do it that way too-- but calling is probably the quickest.
