Frisco Family Services Summer Lunch Program

June 1 - July 31

Typically during this time of year, you would see groups of smiling, carefree children eating lunch, playing and socializing on school grounds during our Summer Lunch Program. But like a lot of gatherings and activities, we’re restricted in what we can do because of COVID-19 and one of our top priorities - the safety and health of our partners, volunteers, staff and the community.

While the logistics of this year's program may look different, make no mistake - we are still here, providing nutritious lunches and weekend meals to school-age children who qualify for free and reduced lunch during the school year. New to the program each week is Fresh Friday, when participants will receive fresh produce as well.

Our Summer Lunch Program began June 1st at Bright Academy with the help of about ten Stonebriar Community Church volunteers who handed out pre-packed lunches via a drive-through pickup line.

You could still see the smiling eyes of our neighbors behind the wheel as they reached out for their free lunches. All the volunteers smiled back through masked faces happy to lend a gloved hand.

With 13% of FISD students qualifying for free and reduced meals during the school year, our Summer Lunch Program helps eliminate some of the strain of providing these additional meals during summer break.
Sara's Story
Sara is just one of the 8000 Frisco ISD students on the free/reduced lunch program during the school year. Last year was the first summer without the presence of Sara’s dad, which left her mom, who was already having a hard time making ends meet, solely responsible for paying all the bills and ensuring they had enough to eat.

As the end of the school year approached, Sara’s mom was overwhelmed with stress until another parent at school told her about Frisco Family Services’ Summer Lunch Program that provides lunches and weekend meals for children in the community. That summer, Sara attended the Summer Lunch Program where she had a healthy lunch every day and made friends with other children in the program.

“The lunch that the school was providing for Sara was a huge help, but when school got out for the summer, I was still trying to figure out how to provide for my daughter on my own,” said Sara’s mom. “I am just so grateful for the Summer Lunch Program because it not only provided meals for my daughter but also provided me with a sense of hope that things were going to be okay.”
