Frontier Grit, by Marianne Monson. This title covers the lives of 12 women who heard the call to be “influencers” during their time on the frontier of gold mining, dog sledding, voting rights, and helping native Americans.

(Please bring a savory to share! Wine available for purchase.)

Voter Registration Season Is Here!

We have voter registration events coming up coming up fast and furious, starting on:

  • September 14, when National Voter Registration Week begins. We will be having tables at libraries, and on college campuses.
  • September 17, Constitution Day, NVCC voter registration

Volunteers to help with the voter registration efforts are needed!

Our League is very proud of our efforts to help register voters. To be a part of this effort, you must be trained, and the training must be renewed each year on or after July 1 and is good until June 30 of the following year. For information on the training, click here.

LWV-PWFA First Fall Meeting

September 13, 10:30 - 12:30

Join us at the Haymarket-Gainesville Library, from 10:30 - 12:30.

There will be coffee and donuts, and a very interesting speaker.

We are having Kim Brace as a speaker. He has been very active with our redistricting, as you know, so it should be interesting.

According to his website: Kimball Brace, president of Election Data Services Inc., is a nationally recognized expert on redistricting, election administration, and the census.

To register for the meeting, click here.

Debates for House Delegates

September 11, House District 21 (Josh Thomas vs Greg Gorham).

September 18, House District 22 (Lovejoy (R) vs Elizabeth Guzman) (D)

We will be partnering with the PWC100 for these debates. Everyone is welcome to come and see your candidates participate in spirited debates.

Update: League outreach to citizens incarcerated in

Prince William County Jail and to recently released citizens

Re-Entry Connections, July 17, 5:30 PM at the Ferlazzo Building

The LWV-PWFA will set up a table with information on restoration of voting rights, materials for voter registration for those eligible, information on the November election (voting starts September 19), and information on the "Ban the Box" law regarding job applications.

The next regular Jail Board meeting is on July 16th. The Board will meet at the Adult Detention Center in the Board Room at 6:00 PM. The meeting consists primarily of updates to the number of inmates, the status of the budget, and any special programs that they have. [There is usually just one sentence about the number of ICE arrests.]
