Greetings!
The first three cohorts of the summer have been abundant with community, learning, and adventure -- as we dive into our "Jubilee" theme, seeking to practice "release, renew, and re-turn" as people of faith.
In addition to guests, teaching faculty, and volunteers, the Holden Board of Directors met for five days in the Village, their first time back as a group since the pandemic.
They approved a new Commitment to Justice:
For the sake of Justice, Holden is called to
Foster Diversity through deliberate invitation and welcome;
Deploy an ethic of Equity to confront and dismantle systemic oppression; and
Practice Inclusion by listening to, learning from, and being transformed by marginalized voices
In order to become, together, the community for which God longs.
We invite you and all people to join in living out these Jubilee values, as we celebrate Holden's 60th anniversary.
Faithfully,
Stacy Kitahata, Mark Bach, and Kathie Bach

Holden Village Supports Choice
|
|
A statement from the Directors, June 2022:
Holden Village stands with girls, women, femmes, and people with uteruses. We unequivocally support the right of all people to privacy, dignity, bodily autonomy, and reproductive choice.
We concur with Justices Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan who wrote, "With sorrow — for this Court, but more, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection — we dissent".

Honored to Host Yakama Nation
Tribal Members
|
|
Holden Village was honored to host 16 Yakama Tribal members and their families. The US Forest Service and Rio Tinto staff accompanied them in a comprehensive overview of the mining remediation, water treatment plant, and environmental stewardship practices.
In the evening, all joined together for a sacred Seven Drum Ceremony honoring the land and our responsibility to steward it well, led by Yakama Elders.

We Celebrate Stacy, Mark, and Kathie
|
|
Holden welcomed six past Executive Directors who joined current Board members, guests and staff to celebrate the current Executive Director team: Stacy Kitahata, Mark Bach, and Kathie Bach. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a public installation service was put on hold until this June, when it was safe to gather together. During an evening Sacred Space time, the community celebrated the hard work that Stacy, Mark, and Kathie have contributed already, and we prayed for the ways they will continue to faithfully lead for the next three years.
