Friends,

I hope you are having a wonderful summer! School may not be in session, but the Boston College High School community is bustling with activity. From students traveling abroad with the Hyde Center, to young alumni undertaking internships through our BC Hire program, and alumni living thousands of miles away, including those I recently visited in California, our work never stops!

Today we celebrate the Feast of St. Ignatius and reflect on nearly 500 years of Jesuit education. It is fitting that this feast day is celebrated in summer, when we also have the chance to reflect on another fantastic year at BC High. All of us at BC High would like share a glimpse of the past year at our school with you:
I wish you an enjoyable summer, and I look forward to updating you again in the fall when we resume classes here on Morrissey Boulevard.

AMDG,
Thank You for Supporting BC High
We were very fortunate to have another successful year for fundraising at BC High. We surpassed our annual fund goal of $3,600,000 because of more than 4,000 alumni, parents, and friends who donated. The Fund for BC High provides critical financial aid and sustains programming that might otherwise go unfunded. Our school could not be what it is without the support of our loving and generous community!
Class of 2018 College Matriculation
We are incredibly proud of our graduates in the Class of 2018! These young men have taken bold strides in the next chapter of their lives - our Eagles are soaring higher than ever before. The results of their tireless search for the magis are clear: more National Merit Finalists than ever before, more than twenty college athletes, a tremendous number continuing their Jesuit education, the highest number of students matriculating into the Ivy League in almost 15 years, and 92% of our seniors being admitted to what Barron’s Guidebook considers the “Most” or “Highly” Competitive colleges.
A Remarkable Spring Season
We capped off a phenomenal spring sports season this year with state championship victories in Lacrosse and Rugby. BC High student-athletes saw just as much success in the classroom, where 86.5% of the Seniors participating in a Varsity Sport earned over a 3.2 GPA during their season. Our Eagles earned a number of accolades including:

  • Track Coach John Normant '64 named Boston Globe Coach of the Year and retired after 50 years of service to BC High

  • Lacrosse Coach Steve Lydon was named All-USA Boys Lacrosse Coach of the year

  • Will Bowen '18 named Division 1 Lacrosse Player of the Year

  • Mike Vasil '18 named Globe All-Scholastic in Baseball

  • Andrew Phillips '18 named Globe All-Scholastic in Volleyball

  • Robert Lester’18 and Cooper Roberts’18 named Globe All-Scholastics in Rugby

All-School Read
Our All-School Read this summer has been Barking to the Choir, a book about Fr. Greg Boyle, SJ's work with Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles. Homeboy Industries is "the largest and most successful gang intervention, rehab, and reentry program in the world."

Fr. Greg's second book provides a uniquely Jesuit message of compassion and kinship, detailing a lifetime of transformative work in his community.

We hope our students, faculty, and staff will all benefit from sharing this literary experience and return to campus eager for powerful discussion.

Greg came to speak at BC High about his work and Tattoos on the Heart a number of years ago and our community was truly blown away. If you are looking for a captivating summer read, consider picking up Barking to the Choir and join in the discussion!
