Mass Capoeira Culture Center Demonstration at Town Hall

Join us on the Town Hall lawn for a demonstration from the Mass Capoeria Culture Center on Tues., July 25 at 6:00 p.m.

Capoeira is a rich cultural tradition that incorporates elements of martial arts, dance, music, and language. Initially developed as a form of resistance by enslaved peoples in colonial-era Brazil, today capoeira is one of the most widely recognized symbols of Brazilian heritage and identity, and is a main vehicle for the dissemination of Brazilian culture and Portuguese language around the world.

This interactive demonstration will showcase the music, instruments, and movements of capoeira. All ages are welcome at this event, and be sure to bring a blanket or seats. In the event of inclement weather, the program will move indoors to the Town Hall ballroom.

Talewise Science Heroes: Saving Earth Together

Brought to you by the Middleborough Parks Department and the Library, it will be held outdoors at 26 Jackson St. on Thurs., July 27 at 1:00 p.m.

This program is generously supported in part by a grant from the Middleborough Cultural Council, a local agency, which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, and the Wilfred M. Silvia Library Trust.

The Next Big Library Read Kicks Off Tomorrow

Participate in our free, global, digital book club with the current selection choice, A Very Typical Family by Sierra Godfrey.

It'll be available in Libby with no waitlists or holds from Thurs., July 13 through Thurs., July 27.

The Big Library Read connects readers around the world with the same ebook at the same time. Simply borrow the free ebook with your library card and start reading on your phone or tablet.

Written with delightfully dark humor and characters you can't help but cheer for, A Very Typical Family is an uplifting family drama that will have you reveling in the power of second chances.

All families are messy. Some are disasters.

Natalie Walker is the reason her older brother and sister went to prison over 15 years ago. She fled California shortly after that fateful night and hasn’t spoken to anyone in her family since. Now, on the same day her boyfriend steals her dream job out from under her, Natalie receives a letter from a lawyer saying her estranged mother has died and left the family’s historic Santa Cruz house to her. Sort of. The only way for Natalie and her siblings to inherit is for all three adult children to come back and claim it—together.
