Our newest acquisition is a painted wooden sign of the Wickford Savings Bank, which hung at the bank’s original 24 Main Street location sometime prior to 1929. The Wickford Savings Bank was formed in 1869 as a result of a reorganization of the North Kingstown Bank, which began doing business at 24 Main St. in 1820.  In 1929, the bank moved around the corner to 27 Brown Street. The donor of the sign, Tom Peirce, worked as the bank’s manager for many years and says the sign never hung at the Brown St. location. The sign also bears the name of its maker, Thomas J. Conroy, who owned a grocery in the Hamilton area.
