Josh Jams entertains the crowd.

Mother Nature must love the Parks Foundation! She served up a gorgeous, 70-degree day for our first event since the pandemic shut everything down.
We are so grateful to all those who joined us for Mindful Brewing Company beer, Earth, Wheel and Fire brick oven pizza and lively tunes by Josh Jams. Your support for fundraising events like these help us to complete projects like the South Park Cascades, the Green Parking Solution lot on Corrigan Drive and Brownsville Road and the Paul Riis Meadow. You make the difference!
Thank you especially to the hardworking volunteers who kept our crowd happy with food and beer deliveries!
See you at the Pour at the Park in North Park on September 10!

MacKenzie Miller and her student volunteers
|
|
South Park has always held a special place in MacKenzie Miller's heart. She remembers many occasions when, along with her sister, she hiked through the park, visited the buffalo and the dog park, swam in the wave pool and enjoyed the free concert series.
So when her sister died suddenly in 2019, Miller, of Emsworth, knew exactly how she wanted to work through her grief. She took the Allegheny County Park Rangers Steward training and organizes regular volunteer sessions as a way to give back to the park that gave her so much joy. Miller’s group volunteered to do a litter clean-up on Earth Day in 2019 and she said they’ve been “hooked” ever since!
Miller, who is director of cosmetology at Toni & Guy Hairdressing Academy at Penn Commercial in Washington, Pa., is often joined by her students on litter clean ups, invasive species removals, weeding and mulching projects. “The cosmetology students I work with have been so inspiring and supportive during my grieving process and have motivated me to organize activities that would make a good impact,” she said. “These beauty professionals have taken great pleasure out of beautifying the park!”
Max Bader, Senior Park Ranger, works closely with Miller and her crew in South Park. He said she is "an invaluable asset to the Allegheny County Parks. As one of our first community members to engage through our Park Steward Program, she is always willing to take on any type of project during her monthly workdays. She is an excellent leader who engages her students and inspires them to get involved in volunteering in their communities. She sets a fantastic example by being a great partner who works closely with us when required but also operates her volunteer workdays independently with great results."

Mark your calendars for the August 21 return of Twilight Picnic for the Parks: Back in the Swing. Pittsburgher-turned-New-Yorker, Benny Benack III returns to his roots to celebrate this night of jazz, cocktails and a grazing picnic dinner. We missed you last year during our COVID pause but we're back at Hartwood Acres Park to celebrate the Allegheny County Parks. Guests will gather in an open, tented park setting and sway to live jazz under the stars with Pittsburgh musicians backing up Benack, a high-energy, singer-musician.
A new twist on our gala calls for a new site. Twilight Picnic for the Parks: Back in the Swing will be staged at the Hartwood Acres Meadow off Middle Road. This project of the Parks Foundation will delight guests with native species blooms while construction of the Sculpture Garden at Hartwood Acres is underway on the Mansion Lawn.
Twilight Picnic for the Parks is the signature fundraising event of the Allegheny County Parks Foundation. Since its inception in 2017, Twilight Picnic has raised over $1.275 million to improve, conserve and restore the nine County Parks, thanks to the support of our corporate community and generous individuals.
Would you like to sponsor this event? Email Barbara Brewton or call her at 724.327.7627. Stay tuned for ticket information!
