Amazing Clothing Drive Outcome
Christopher Blackman was selected in 8th grade as the Whitman Ambassador for Project 351. Every year since, he has participated as an alumni ambassador in their spring clothing drive, their fall food pantry drive, and other opportunities to serve the community. This year, as every year, he reached out to the Whitman schools about being drop sites for the clothing drive which was supposed to go from March 23-April 2 and they had all agreed. Then the quarantine started. With little else planned, the Blackman family started finding ways to occupy their time, including cleaning closets and drawers. Christopher decided other people were likely doing the same. They would post in Whitman FB groups and his mother, Stephanie, posted on her own personal page.
The community support was overwhelmingly wonderful. They received 57 bags of clothes and 4 bags of shoes to donate to Cradles to Crayons and an additional 96 bags plus 2 suits to give to St. Vincent de Paul.

Whitman High School Class of 1957

Photographs show the Whitman High School Class of 1957, Little League Champions, Whitman Orchestral Club, & Varsity Football team.
Although many of the Whitman Orchestral Club members are middle-aged or older, the organization which is pre-seating its 1957 pops concert Nov. 14 at Whitman Town Hall under the sponsorship of Masque and Triangle boasts a suitable group of young teenagers, most of whom are shown above (top picture).
The varsity Football team is looking forward to the traditional Turkey Day morning encounter with old time Abington High rivals, seeking revenge for the 19-6 defeat suffered in Whitman last year.

Me and White Supremacy by Layla F. Saad "Layla Saad is one of the most important and valuable teachers we have right now on the subject of white supremacy and racial injustice."~New York Times bestselling author Elizabeth Gilbert. Based on the viral Instagram challenge that captivated participants worldwide, Me and White Supremacy takes readers on a 28-day journey of how to dismantle the privilege within themselves so that they can stop (often unconsciously) inflicting damage on people of color, and in turn, help other white people do better, too.

How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi
From the National Book Award–winning author of Stamped from the Beginning comes a "groundbreaking" (Time) approach to understanding and uprooting racism and inequality in our society— and in ourselves." The most courageous book to date on the problem of race in the Western mind." —The New York Times. Antiracism is a transformative concept that reorients and reenergizes the conversation about racism— and, even more fundamentally, points us toward liberating new ways of thinking about ourselves and each other. At it's core, racism is a powerful system that creates false hierarchies of human value; its warped logic extends beyond race, from the way we regard people of different ethnicities or skin colors to the way we treat people of different sexes, gender identities, and body types. This book is currently not available via the Whitman Public Library, but can be purchased here via the official website .

White Fragility by Robin Diangelo
The New York Times best-selling book exploring the counterproductive reactions white people have when their assumptions about race are challenged, and how these reactions maintain racial inequality. In this "vital, necessary, and beautiful book" (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and "allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to 'bad people' (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves that white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt, and by behaviors including argumentation and silence.
