On the eve of her 40th birthday, Alice’s life isn’t terrible. But her father is ailing, and it feels to her as if something is missing. When she wakes up the next morning she finds herself back in 1996, reliving her 16th birthday. But it isn’t just her adolescent body that shocks her, or seeing her high school crush, it’s her dad: the vital, charming, 40-something version of her father with whom she is reunited. Now armed with a new perspective on her own life and his, some past events take on new meaning. Is there anything that she would change if she could?

A testament to family in all its messy glory; a story about what we sacrifice and how we forgive. Enthralling, witty, big-hearted, and sharply observed, this is Jennifer Weiner’s love letter to the Outer Cape and the power of home, the way our lives are enriched by the people we call family, and the endless ways love can surprise us.

Nora keeps bumping into Charlie, a bookish brooding editor from back in the city. It would be a meet-cute if not for the fact that they’ve met many times and it’s never been cute. If Nora knows she’s not an ideal heroine, Charlie knows he’s nobody’s hero, but as they are thrown together again and again—in a series of coincidences no editor worth their salt would allow—what they discover might just unravel the carefully crafted stories they’ve written about themselves.

Vicki Lorini Book Club Pick!

Our next book club meeting will be in June.
Due to CoVid restrictions and guidelines we will be limiting attendance to 20 people, however we will keep a list of interested alternates in case one of the first 20 to sign up can't make it. Also, if there is enough interest in the event, we might attempt a Zoom option as well (full disclosure, we are book people so that technological leap might prove a bridge too far but we will do our level best if desire outpaces capacity). Because of the 20 person limit we ask that if you sign up and are unable to attend that you please call and let us know so that your spot won't go to waste.
In addition to the cap on attendance we will also be requiring all attendees to be fully masked - nose and mouth - for the entirety of the meeting, regardless of vaccination status. We love this book and cannot wait to hear what you all thought but the safety of our community comes first.
If you want to sign up to attend, please give us a call at the store 530-272-2131 or sign up in person. Those are the only two ways to get on the list, not via email or social media, so we look forward to hearing from you soon!

This is a historical fiction about Depression-era photographer Dorothea Lange that shows how the endless possibilities of self-invention will persist even against the monumental force of history.
We can’t wait to see you on June to dig into this beautiful and moving story!

Eleven-year-old Ella Durand is the first Conjuror to attend the Arcanum Training Institute, a magic school in the clouds where Marvellers from around the world practice their cultural arts, like brewing Indian spice elixirs and bartering with pesky Irish pixies.
When a dangerous criminal known as the Ace of Anarchy escapes prison, supposedly with a Conjuror’s aid, tensions grow in the Marvellian world and Ella becomes the target of suspicion. With the help of her friends and her own growing powers, Ella must find a way to clear her family’s name before it’s too late.
