Finding the Right College Match with Denise Pope

Dr. Dan welcomes back the inspiring educator, author, and co-founder of Challenge Success, Dr. Denise Pope. This show focuses how to help your child find the right college match, based on Denise's recent white paper on college admissions. This episode will help parents better navigate the college search and admission process with their child.

Denise offers the best advice for all families on the college hunt: have faith and confidence that YES your child will find the right school and will be happy! New research demonstrates that there is a place for everyone and that there really is NO significant difference between schools -- Ivy Leagues and so-called top tier schools included.

Denise Pope, Ph.D., is a Senior Lecturer at Stanford University, and co-author of Overloaded and Underprepared: Strategies for Stronger Schools and Healthy, Successful Kids.

Extraordinary People with Gregg and Lauri Ireland

Dr. Dan interviews husband and wife entrepreneurs and parents Gregg and Lori Ireland in this inspiring episode about their organization Extra-ordinary Adventures which helps special needs adults work and live independently.

In 2007, Gregg and Lori faced the problem of what to do with their son, Vinnie, who has autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and would "age out" of the public school system and community resources. That's when a group of like-minded-parents united to create employment opportunities for adults with disabilities.

On the podcast, Gregg and Lori discuss their nonprofit organization, the documentary Extraordinary People that their son is featured in, and how their own parenting experience and creative thinking within the autism community is helping so many special needs young adults.

Counseling at Summit Center
The Summit Center offers individual, family, and group counseling (also known as psychotherapy) utilizing a strength-based approach to problem-solving and optimizing growth potential through a developmental lens.

We believe counseling needs to be provided in a safe and respectful manner through a caring and holistic approach. While emphasizing positive developmental pathways, we acknowledge the inevitable challenges of painful life processes and transitions. Though difficult, these challenges may become catalysts for further growth and change. We seek to enhance each individual's capacities to connect with others, enjoy meaningful work, and discover their natural abilities for learning, growth, and increased well-being.
