Parent Footprint with Dr. Dan: New Guests Hans Anschim and Dr. Anjani Amladi
This month, Dr. Dan speaks with two new guests about adventure and how to support your child’s mental health, especially as we come out of the pandemic.
Unplug, Log-off, and Get Outside with Hans Aschim
In this new episode, Dr. Dan interviews adventure expert and author Hans Aschim. Hans is a journalist, world traveler, outdoor industry brand consultant, and proud uncle. He advocates for adventure – in your own backyard or beyond – and powering down technology in order to get outside more.
His debut book, How to Go Anywhere (and Not Get Lost), will inspire children and parents to learn how to navigate their world while also enjoying the journey. Hans has traveled the world writing for Outside, Esquire, Men’s Journal, and other publications. He mentors children for the sports and outdoors nonprofit, Stoked, and lives in Brooklyn, New York.
Dr. Dan interviews Anjani Amladi, M.D. (“Dr. A”) about mental health, the impacts of COVID-19 on children and families, and the six ways parents can support their child’s mental health.
Anjani Amladi, M.D. is a double board-certified Adult Psychiatrist and Child/Adolescent Psychiatrist focusing on an integrative approach to patient care. Dr. Amladi has an extensive background in treating a wide variety of psychiatric disorders such as: ADHD, OCD, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, Schizophrenia, and eating disorders. She is also the author of the Amazon best-selling children’s picture book, When the World Got Sick, which helps children and caregivers talk about the impact of COVID-19 and how to navigate this stressful time.
Jill Stowell of Stowell Learning Centers spoke with Summit Center's Dr. Dan Peters about gifted and twice-exceptional students for her weekly video series, LD Expert Live. They discussed:
• What 2E means
• 2E characteristics parents might notice
• Guidance for parents of 2E students who are struggling in school.
Learning challenges can make it difficult to recognize giftedness in school. This video can help parents gain a better understanding of 2E students.
Summer registration is open for Catalyst, Bright & Quirky's child and teen program. This online kids' program features engaging camps, instructors who 'get' bright and quirky kids, and an opportunity to get to know like-minded twice exceptional kids from around the world.
"I think its important for us as humans to realize that just because something negative happens to us doesn’t mean that we can’t get over it. We are capable of resilience and growth and change and meeting our goals. Even if it comes in different form at a different time, maybe not when we are expecting.
There are positive ways for managing. There is hope! There is hope at the end of the day.
