On November 2, Sumter County was well-represented at the annual Villages Government Day, with several key departments showcasing their services to the community. Departments including the Board of County Commissioners, Veteran Services, Emergency Communications, Transit, Animal Services, Mosquito Control, Public Works, and Library were all present to engage with residents, answer questions, and highlight the important work they do to support the community. The event was a wonderful opportunity for residents to connect directly with local government officials and learn more about the various services offered in Sumter County.

In addition to the Government Day festivities, Sumter County Public Works also hosted the quarterly Amnesty Day Hazardous Material Collection event on the same day. Held at Lake Okahumpka Park, this event provided a safe and convenient way for residents to dispose of hazardous materials, helping to keep our community safe and environmentally responsible. The Amnesty Day event is part of Sumter County’s ongoing efforts to encourage proper disposal of hazardous waste and promote public health and safety.

Both events were a success, bringing together county officials and residents in meaningful ways, and reinforcing Sumter County’s commitment to serving the community through outreach, education, and responsible environmental practices.
