Association Weekly News
From the Desk of the Executive Director
Happy Friday!

On Thursday, we completed a Memorial Day display at the Prairie Lodge, which will continue through the Holiday weekend. Veterans from the community were invited to come by the lodge for a treat and I am happy to say we were able to thank about 100 servicemen for their service to our country! I realize that Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in service of the United States of America, but we felt it appropriate to take an opportunity to appreciate our returning heroes also. I encourage you to visit the parking area in front of the middle portico entrance to the community. Many thanks to Stephanie Burrows of Century 21 New Heritage, Melissa Hornick, and Thomas Reusch (and his brother) for their sponsorship and efforts!

Historically, pools around the nation open for Memorial Day weekend. While we understand everyone’s desire to embrace summer and use the pools, the Governor has not issued guidelines for pool openings at this time. Therefore, the pools will not be opening this weekend.
The Board will be reviewing recommendations for reopening during Phase 3 at the May 27 th Board meeting. More detailed information will follow. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate through these challenging times.

I wish everyone a wonderful Memorial Day!

Healthy Sleep Habits From Northwestern Medicine Sleep Disorder Clinic Algonquin

Sleep is a very important function of the body and good sleep is necessary to wellness and is as important as diet and exercise to be healthy. It is important to a healthy immune system. Shortening your sleep time or having poor quality of sleep can lead to many health problems/illnesses. Below are some healthy sleep habits that are always important, but especially during these stressful times.
  1. Maintain a regular bed time and wake time. Our bodies are regulated by our Circadian rhythm, which is our 24 hour body clock. The body gests used to a set sleep/wake time and needs to be maintained daily to be able to fall asleep easily.
  2. Avoid caffeine and nicotine products close to bedtime. These are stimulants and can keep you from falling asleep and staying asleep. They cause more frequent awakening during the night.

If you are experiencing trouble sleeping during this time, you can contact the Northwestern Medicine Sleep Disorder Clinic in Algonquin at 847.854.7250- at-home sleep studies now offered!
