Sun Coast Pipeline - January 2016
Happy New Year To You and Your Family!
From Our Winning Team to Yours

I want to wish you and our thousands of treasured customers, suppliers, and business associates a very happy and prosperous New Year.  Sun Coast is successful in large part due to your loyal support and friendship. Since 1985, our goal is, and always has been, to provide our customers with the highest quality petroleum products and unique programs and services available.

Over the course of the past 30 years, the marketplace has changed in so many profound and interesting ways, thanks to the ingenuity and hard work of America’s best and brightest.  Sun Coast has invested heavily in new technologies, additional facilities located in key demand centers, as well as modern and more efficient transportation equipment to enhance the depth and breadth of our offerings.  We are indeed a “one stop energy shop” committed to providing the products and programs American enterprises need to keep them up and running, no matter what.  We are particularly focused on doing what we say we will do, on time, and within budget.

2015, came and went in a flash. Extremely warm temperatures around Christmas were followed by very wicked weather. In latter December, deadly tornadoes, blizzards, fires and flooding extracted a very costly toll on so many. Hundreds of flights were cancelled, stranding travelers in airports around the nation. In spite of these weather related challenges, 2016 brings with it a renewed sense of optimism and hope for a great year, and those involved in drilling for oil and the thousands of others who serve it are most likely the most hopeful.

The plunge in oil prices throughout 2015, brought with it pain and suffering to the Oil Patch. Oil company stock prices dropped like a rock, rigs were stacked, bankruptcies increased at an alarming rate among oil field services companies and “new to the market” E & P operations; and as a result, thousands of layoffs were announced.  What does the future hold for oil prices this year?  No one knows.  Some are forecasting weakness for several more years.  The real answer depends on how much supply oil producers bring to the marketplace, and other non-production factors.  Currently, worldwide supply for petroleum exceeds demand by approximately 2 million barrels per day.  Global crude inventories are at an 80 year high.  Which producer will blink first?  Good question.

So many factors will impact where oil prices ultimately settle out this year, including, whether the Saudi’s and other large producers will change their production and pricing strategies; the potential for heightened conflict in the Middle East; what a possible power vacuum in Russia would entail; the impact on economies if and when access to easy money dries up; possible impacts of social upheavals around the globe; whether more oil field services contractors throw in the towel;  the possible collapse of the US dollar; whether China and other nations who consume large amounts of energy slip into a severe recession; a possible massive hurricane event in the Gulf Coast; whether existing alliances among allied nations continue or collapse; the financial impact of climate change regulations; a disruption in  the world’s oil tanker fleet; the potential increase in technologies and alternative energy sources to reduce or replace petroleum consumption; and the prospect of continued terrorist attacks.

Most of the above factors, should any occur, will likely cause oil prices to rise.  How far, and for how long is a great topic for debate.  Whatever hand the oil sector is dealt, American enterprise will make the necessary adjustments to deal with the known and the unknown.  That’s what makes America great.  We are fueled by ingenuity and “can do” spirit.  It’s in our DNA.

The thousands of businesses, agencies and enterprises we serve are the backbone of American commerce, without whom none of us would enjoy the standard of living our families have come to rely on. Thanks to all we serve for your business and friendship.  Let’s make 2016 the best year ever!

Lift Off? US Moving Toward Exporting Domestic Crude Oil

After years of tough talk, hearty lobbying efforts and political gamesmanship, the U.S. Congress might – just might – be ready to send something to President Obama that lifts the ban on crude oil.

The bill would feature a few others things, too. Hence, that’s largely how versions of it have made it through both the House and the Senate. The bill – makes provisions for the renewables the Obama administration has sought, as well as lifting the 40-year-old ban on crude exports that Republicans have championed.

Safety Minute: Work On and Avoid Ice Safely
Click here to read the full article!

Walking in parking lots, out on site, or out in the yard during the winter requires special attention to avoid slipping and falling. Slips and falls are some of the most frequent types of injuries that occur during the winter months.

No matter how well the snow and ice is removed from parking lots and sidewalks, you will still encounter some slippery surfaces when walking outdoors in the winter.  The steps on bobtails and transports often ice over and become very slippery as well...

Thank you again for your business and friendship. May 2016 be your most prosperous year yet! Here is a little January poem to help start your new year off right.

T'was the month after Christmas, and all through the house,
nothing would fit me, not even a blouse;
The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I had to taste,
at the holiday parties had gone to my waist;

When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber),
I'd remember the marvelous meals I'd prepared,
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared;

The wine, the rum balls; the bread, the cheese,
and the way I never said, "No thank you, please."
As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt,
and prepared once again to do battle with dirt,
I said to myself, as only I can, "You can't spend a winter disguised as a man!"

So, away with the last of the sour cream dip.
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip.
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished,
'til all the additional ounces have vanished.

I won't have a cookie--not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.
I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie,
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.

I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore,
But isn't that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!

Are You Ready For A Cyber-Attack?

America was changed forever after the terror attacks on 9/11/2001.  Since then, the United States has spent in excess of $50 billion a year gathering intelligence to defend our nation against future acts of terror. In spite of our rigorous intelligence gathering activities, the fear of attack is ever present.  We all remember the recent terrorist attacks in San Bernardino and Colorado Springs.

Most of our intelligence gathering is focused on disrupting mass shootings and bombing threats.  However, another area that is particularly exposed to acts of terror is our nation’s power grids, one of which is solely dedicated to Texas. If it were knocked out, 27 million households and businesses would be without electricity for weeks, or possibly months.

A number of notable experts in the field of intelligence gathering believe that a cyber-attack on our nation’s electric grids is not a question of if, but when.  Our preparedness is key to mitigating a total power grid failure.  Having emergency generation power capability, and a guaranteed source of fuel to operate them, is the only viable way to keep businesses up and running.

Sun Coast’s comprehensive Power Program will keep your emergency power generator properly maintained. It is important that both generator and the fuel are tested on a regular basis.  Our Power Program provides customized year round service to insure your generator is ready to operate when it needed, no matter what.

Sun Coast’s Power Program Includes:
  • Quarterly fuel top-offs, so your equipment is full when a disaster strikes.
  • Annual fuel sampling to make sure your generator fuel still meets specifications. 70% of all generator failures are due to poor fuel quality.
  • Fuel treatment - Sun Coast’s generator fuel is pre-treated with biocide and Diesel Treat 2000.  These additives help eliminate fuel contaminants.
In addition to the threat of cyber-attacks on our nation’s power grids, natural and made-made disasters also often cause a disruption in power and  fuel supply.  Sun Coast’s Emergency Fuel and Power Programs work hand in hand to provide our customers peace of mind during very challenging times.

Sun Coast is ready.  Are you?

Customers, employees, and members of the public may now openly carry a handgun.

There are two exceptions the business owner may use if the business owner does not want people openly carrying handguns on the premises. These provisions are very similar to the already in place concealed carry rules that involve proper signage or a clear verbal communication that open carry of handguns is not permitted.
Sun Coast will be offering significant price reductions on select items for end-of-year close out. Check out this list for products that you use every day or products that you can use in place of your current brands.

January has been designated as National Blood Donor Month (NBDM) to encourage donors to give or pledge to give blood.

You don't need a special reason to give blood.

You just need your own reason.

  1. Some of us give blood because we were asked by a friend.
  2. Some know that a family member or a friend might need blood some day.
  3. Some believe it is the right thing to do.

Whatever your reason, the need is constant and your donation is important for maintaining a healthy and reliable blood supply. You'll feel good knowing you've helped change a life!
