You can read about the current Venus retrograde cycle in the March 2025 News and Views. Part One here conta.cc/3FzF6p6. (The terms inferior and superior conjunction have been used for many years but recently many astrologers have renamed them interior and exterior conjunction so that there is no implication of one being better or more superior than the other. I just use the terms inferior and superior out of habit, but I did want to make it clear that inferior is interchangeable with interior and superior is interchangeable with exterior.) The conjunction is also called cazimi, combustion, and Venus Star Point, each having slightly different meanings, but I will at this time simply refer to the Sun and Venus as its exact degree, when Venus cannot be seen since it is in the heart of the Sun, as a conjunction.
Some of this is adapted from past newsletters but it is changed to reflect the current placement of Sun-Venus. As I have said many times the Sun-Venus inferior conjunction occurs midway through the Venus Retrograde cycle, when Venus is closest to the earth. Starting on August 8th, Venus is what many ancients consider to be combust, meaning the planet cannot be seen due to the Sun obstructing its view, and the power of Venus to induce love, beauty, and peace is obliterated. You can no longer see it in the evening sky as an evening star, since it has risen and set after the Sun. When Venus exactly conjoins the Sun on March 22, it is considered in some traditions to be cazimi meaning that Venus and the Sun are within 15 minutes of arc (some traditions say one degree) and in the heart of the Sun adding strength to Venus. That does occur on that one day when Venus and Sun are completely conjunct.
However, in classical first millennium CE Indian astrology I have not seen this concept used. Instead I have only seen it viewed as combust (obliterated from view due to the brightness of the Sun). That means that when Venus is retrograde, as it is now, Venus is considered to be combust the Sun when it conjoins within 8 degrees, so that from about March 18-28, Venus is considered combust and means it will require effort on all our parts to maintain love and diplomacy in the world, and in our personal lives.
After the exact conjunction on March 22, we will not be able to see Venus and then between around the 25th-28th, Venus will have its heliacal rising (first time it can be seen) as the Morning Star, which means it will then rise and set before the Sun so it will be viewed quickly early in the morning until the Sun rises and is too bright for Venus to be seen. As the month of april progresses, when Sun and Venus are further apart, you will be able to see it more easily but still only early in the morning before the Sun rises. It will be a morning star until it forms its next superior conjunction on January 6, 2026, when Venus is on the far side of the Sun in its farthest point from Earth in its orbit, and the Sun is between the Earth and Venus. After that conjunction, Venus is still far out of reach to be seen and will not have its heliacal rise as an evening star for about two months.
Of course there is so much more to say about the Venus cycle, since I have noticed as have other astrologers, that major events, not always pleasant, happen around the time of the heliacal rising. The ancient Sumerians for instance thought the Morning Star was a time of war and discord, while the Evening Star was a time of negotiation and peace. Due to Venus darting out into the sky with a white light that looks like a bolt of lightning at the time of its heliacal rise, many ancient cultures stayed indoors at that time. We will see then if anything occurs around March 25-28, let us say that brings discord. It is important to remember that when Venus is unable to be viewed, meaning now through the 19th, you need to work harder at maintaining love, diplomacy, and financial health.
Once the heliacal rise takes place there may be some anger and even violent moods because now Venus will be in a new morning star phase, which the ancients likened to a more aggressive period of time. There could be anger, invasions, standstills in peace talks or negotiations, violence, crashes, aggressive events, and things coming out of the woodwork. Events in the world that people will notice take place, and even though the heliacal rising indicates events often on a worldly scale, it could occur in your personal lives so do take deep breaths around those days because the short tempers, and quick to get angry moods, may be palpable in the people around you. On a less forceful note, the morning star phase of Venus is also more assertive, and may be a time when you focus on your own needs and build confidence, and while you do not want to be insensitive to others, you may think of yourself first rather than always worry about how your actions affect others. Mostly moving from a phase of conciliation to assertion, which can be positive if utilized correctly.
In addition to the degrees of the Venus retrograde and direct stations being powerful (retrograde station occurred on March 1st and direct station occurs on April 7th) the Sun-Venus conjunction, which occurs at Tropical. 2° Aries 39’. Sidereal 8° Pisces 32’, is a potent degree so look at what it conjoins in your chart (I like using a one-degree orb). If you are familiar with the 8-year cycle of Venus, you know that the conjunction was around that degree (though 2 degrees difference) in 2017, 2009, 2001, 1993, etc., so if it conjoins something in your chart you can think back to those times. Every four years the conjunction will actually be around that degree as well, though it will alternate, so that means that in 2021, 2013, 2005, 1997, etc. the superior conjunction was at that degree but due to Venus being direct it crosses more quickly with Venus moving direct, rather than Venus crossing that degree three times between January 28, 2025, when it enters the retrograde arc, and May 16, 2025, when it leaves the retrograde arc, which is why the inferior conjunction is considered to be much more powerful. These are the last few times, the Sun-Venus conjunction was around that degree in general.
March 25, 2017. Inferior Conjunction. Tropical. 4 Aries 57. Sidereal. 10 Pisces 57
March 26, 2021. Superior Conjunction. Tropical. 5 Aries 50. Sidereal. 11 Pisces 47

You might want to look to these past dates to see if you remember the last time the conjunction hit these degrees especially if they conjoin something in your chart. If not, you can still look at the house that it is in, since whenever Venus is retrograde it stays in one or two signs longer than usual. Read which zodiac you use below.
