β Sun's Out, Fun's Out at Critchlow Adkins! |
It was a Party in the USA this July at Critchlow Adkins, and our campers are living it up, thanks to your support! Our children have been enjoying lots of time at the pool, including swimming lessons from our friends at SOS Sink or Swim. Through our weekly themed programming, they have explored other cultures and become scientists, chefs, artists, pirates, and so much more. Our community has opened its doors to them during amazing field trips ranging from educational and inspirational (Harriett Tubman Museum, Positive Strides Therapeutic Riding) to simply sensational (Chuck E. Cheese, Cabin Fever)!
Watch the video below to see just a few of the amazing memories you made possible for our kids this month, then scroll down to see more of your support in action!

Aloha Adventure!
Our St. Michaels Site went on a Great Hawaiian Adventure! They created beautiful sunset, tiki, and pineapple art, had a blast doing the classic volcano experiment, and made homemade ice cream together. Campers enjoyed an awesome luau party with leis, grass skirts, hula hoops, limbo, and more. It was totally tubular!
| |
Splish Splash!
It was Water Palooza at our Cordova Site! Campers finished their swimming lessons, which are provided for all of our sites through a wonderful partnership with SOS Sink or Swim and made possible in part by the annual Conor's Project event. They had a super fun water relay, and enjoyed lots of other water-related activities. It was the perfect way to beat the heat during this steamy summer weather!

Ahoy and Shell-o!
Cordova wasn't the only site making a splash. At our Easton School Age Site, campers had a fin-tastic time during Mermaids and Pirates Week! They even enjoyed special treats, including seashell pasta salad, graham cracker ocean scene snacks, and a beach-inspired pudding cup. They also made mermaid and pirate ship crafts. Our mermaids and pirates then headed to the pool for... you guessed it... fun and life-saving swimming lessons!
| |
Foam Parties and Food Prep!
At our Easton Preschool Site, one of the highlights of the month was a big foam party from Willy Woo Woo! The playground, campers, and staff were covered in bubbly foam and loved every minute of it! The following week, everyone put on their chef hats to learn about cooking! Room 2 even had a visit from Chef Robert Neumer, who taught our budding culinary artists how to make chicken wraps and sandwiches!

Gold Medal For Fun!
The campers at our White Marsh Site had an incredible trip to Positive Strides Therapeutic Riding, where they learned how to ride and take care of horses and made a living mural by hand-painting one of the gentle giants! Our site visits to Positive Strides are made possible by generous grant funding from the Talbot Family Network. White Marsh also held a camp-wide Olympics, complete with a medal ceremony. Back in the classroom, they did a logic-defying science experiment during which they poked holes in a bag full of water without the water leaking out. The kids were amazed by the results!
| | Follow us on Facebook to get your Friday fix of cuteness with our Weekly Round Up! | | | White Marsh Preschool Classroom Makeover! | | The preschool classroom at our White Marsh Site recently underwent a renovation, and our students moved back into the space at the end of this month. New flooring, storage, molding, and paint went into the space, and it is now an even brighter and more welcoming place to learn! Many thanks to J Duffy Construction for donating their labor and Warren's Woodworks for providing the wood trim. We are so grateful for these wonderful business partners and their phenomenal transformation of this classroom for our kids! | | Thank You, Blake Blackston American Legion! | | We are grateful to have been named one of the recipients of the Blake Blackston American Legion #77 Annual Community Service Grant Awards! Both our White Marsh and Easton School Age Sites were awarded grants, along with many other local nonprofit organizations and churches. This generous funding will be used for enrichment programming and tuition assistance at both sites. Thank you to the Blake Blackston American Legion for your continued support of Critchlow Adkins Children's Centers and our community as a whole! | | Meet Drew Carroll and Jim Dugan! | |
We are very excited to introduce you to Drew Carroll and Jim Dugan, who joined our Board of Directors this month. Both bring a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to supporting children and families on Marylandβs Mid-Shore.
Drew Carroll, a retired attorney and dedicated community volunteer, lives in Easton with his wife, Cherie. Originally from Alexandria, VA, Drew earned his law degree from the University of Richmond and has held leadership roles with the Rotary Club, YMCA, and Alexandria Little League. He has a strong interest in child welfare and education and looks forward to supporting CACCβs before- and after-school programs and literacy initiatives.
Jim Dugan brings more than 40 years of experience in finance and investment management. Before retiring, he was a Partner at Brown Advisory in Baltimore and previously led Cavanaugh Capital Management. A former Baltimore police officer turned finance expert, Jim has served on numerous nonprofit and faith-based finance committees. He and his wife, Linda, also live in Easton and are enthusiastic about supporting Critchlowβs mission.
We are thrilled to welcome Drew and Jim to the Board. Drewβs background in law and community service, combined with Jimβs deep financial expertise and nonprofit experience, will bring tremendous value to our organization. Most importantly, they both share a genuine passion for supporting young learners and strengthening families in our community. Please join us in giving them a warm welcome to the Critchlow Adkins family!

Two of the best community events of the year are just around the corner, and YOU'RE INVITED! Save the dates for these two great opportunities to have lots of fun while helping Critchlow Adkins Build Brighter Futures through educational childcare!
Coming up first is the 8th Annual Conor's Project Sporting Clay Tournament and Crab Feast, which will take place on Sunday, September 7th at Pintail Point. Compete as an individual or a team of 4, or join us after the tournament for the community crab feast, for great food, awesome entertainment, and lots of love. Conor's Project is hosted by Rennie Gay and his family each year to honor the memory of his grandson, Conor. Proceeds from this wonderful event help provide swimming lessons and enrichment programming for our students.
In October, we're hosting a special edition of our annual Critchlow Adkins Trivia Night, celebrating 55 years of providing quality, financially accessible childcare in our community! Trivia night involves a little thinking, a lot of laughter, and tons of fun! We're also hosting our annual Fund-A-Need paddle raise, with a goal of raising $75,000 to support our Enrichment and Tuition Assistance Programs.
Visit our website and stay tuned. More details about these two exciting events will be coming soon!
| | A July STEAM Project YOU Can Do At Home! | | Summer is all about sunshine and fun! This week, we're sharing how you can harness the sun to teach your child about light and shadow with some simple and fun Shadow Art STEAM! | | | We always recommend drawing (no pun intended) inspiration for your STEAM activity from a great book! This week's book is called, My Shadow, by Robert Louis Stevenson. It's a short and playful poem about a child's fascination with his shadow. It reveals his wonder as he discovers that his shadow is with him wherever he goes! | | Now that you're excited about shadows, it's time to grab some supplies that you already have hanging around your home and head outside to make Shadow Art! Click the button below to see a list of easy and creative Shadow Art methods, courtesy of KidsActivities.com. | | As always, be as creative as you want, and have lots of fun learning together! Follow our Facebook and Instagram pages or visit our website to see a new STEAM project every week on "STEAM Saturday!" | | | |
β We pineapp-solutely adoreο»Ώ you! | | |
