Mask Weekend is less than a week after Halloween -- why not trot out that costume or mask for one more event! Many of our villagers and nobles wear masks on this special weekend -- from leather ones similar to those sold in our shops, to masks face-painted on. Of course, you are always welcome to either dress up, or come as you would to any outdoor event. (Remember, our RenFest is a family-friendly event. Please dress appropriately.) Come to our daily costume contest (3 p.m., Queen Stage) and show us your take on Mask Weekend!

New Orleans is a city that has achieved an unparalleled reputation as a dining and celebration destination, a place renowned for good times, fine cuisine, and possessing a singular appreciation of rewards on the palate. Your wines not only belong in this competition, they can make an important statement with an award recognition.
The New York Times recently described New Orleans as "a vibrant, historically-rich city of resilience," The New Orleans International Wine Awards will further add to our community's commitment to excellence in hospitality and culinary pursuits, made especially poignant and important during New Orleans' year-long Tricentennial celebrations.
Founded in 1718 by French Canadian explorers under a directive from Louis XIV, the Sun King, New Orleans has played a role in the expansion of Spain and France into world powers, and in the establishment of the United States as a valued member of the world community, stretching the width of the North American continent.
With the arrival of peoples from every nation, New Orleans embraced their customs, their culinary expressions and, mostly, their spirits. To this day, it is impossible to walk the streets of New Orleans and not be affected by the joys and passions for life as lived in this city renowned for dining, music, architecture, history, and desire to celebrate.
Joie de Vivre does not begin to express the sensual overtones of New Orleans residents who define love of neighbor and embrace of visitor.
There are many good reasons to take part in the New Orleans International Wine Awards program.
** Winemakers from every corner of the globe can submit their wines to be evaluated by a blue-ribbon group of internationally respected, professional, and experienced wine judges.
** Your wines will then be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike in a wine tasting event that can only happen in New Orleans. Guests will walk between Brennan's Restaurant on Royal Street, Galatoire's Restaurant on Bourbon Street, Antoine's Restaurant on St. Louis Street, and Arnaud's Restaurant on Bienville Street. These four Grande Damerestaurants are themselves among the most recognized and awarded dining establishments in the world.

Join us for an evening of French Baroque opera, a musical feast featuring selections of artwork from the New Orleans Museum of Art and performances by Marigny Opera Ballet Company.
The court of Louis XIV, the "Sun King," was known for its richness and splendor that extended to the arts and architecture, as well. Jean-Philippe Rameau, one of the greatest of the French Baroque composers of opera turned to the Greek mythological subject of the renowned sculptor, Pygmalion, as told in Ovid's Metamorphoses. In Rameau's and Ballot de Sauvot's version, the sculptor Pygmalion creates a beautiful statue to which he declares his love. His girlfriend, Céphise, begs for attention, but Pygmalion spurns her and entreats the goddess Venus to bring his statue to life. Magically the statue enlivens, sings, and dances. Venus arrives and praises Pygmalion for his artistry and faith in his powers, and helpfully finds another lover for Céphise.
The second half of our French Baroque evening will feature the following compositions complemented by paintings from the New Orleans Museum of Art's exhibition of the Duke of Orleans celebrated art collection.

Raw Oysters
Fall in New Orleans marks the beginning of oyster season on the Gulf Coast. Oysters are in season during months with an 'r' in them - September to April - because the water in the Gulf is a bit cooler during that time (however, you can still enjoy them year-round). Plenty of local restaurants offer special happy hour deals on raw and chargrilled oysters, so you can easily get your fix.
Boudin, Bourbon & Beer
There's no question that
Boudin, Bourbon & Beer is a winning combination. This festival was created by Chef Emeril Lagasse and takes place on Nov. 9 in Champion's Square. Many of New Orleans' best chefs participate, and beer is provided by Abita with bourbon by Buffalo Trace. Admission is $135 and includes all food and drinks. Proceeds go to the Emeril Lagasse Foundation, which supports life skills development, culinary training, and educational programs.

City to Increase the Number of Waste Tires Accepted at the Recycling Drop-Off Center from Four to Five
NEW ORLEANS - In an effort to reduce the number of illegally abandoned waste tires, the City of New Orleans Department of Sanitation has increased the number of waste tires that will be accepted at the Recycling Drop-Off Center from four to five. The Recycling Drop-Off Center, located at 2829 Elysian Fields Ave., is open on the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Orleans Parish residents can drop off paper products (newspapers, junk mail, phone books, catalogs, office paper, color inserts); plastics #1 through #7 (water, soda, juice, detergent, plastic pots from nurseries, plastic bags, etc.); metals (aluminum, tin and steel cans); cardboard; box board (cereal boxes); Mardi Gras beads; batteries (AA, AAA, AAAA, C, D, 6 volt, 9 volt, Lithium); light bulbs (incandescent and fluorescent); and electronics such as computers, processors, monitors, keyboards, small printers, laptops, ink jet/toner cartridges, circuit boards, X-boxes, Playstations, Wii, MP3/DVD/CD players, DVRs, digital cameras, security systems, networking equipment, UPS, GPS, fax machines, stereos, telephones and phone systems, televisions (limit 4), microwave ovens (limit 4), tires (limit 5), glass (limit 50 lbs.) and organics for composting -- fruit/vegetable scraps (peels, skins, pits, or seeds), tea bags, coffee grounds and paper filter, eggshells, nutshells, seed shells, plain bread, grains, and plain pasta (no toppings, meet, bones, dairy or foods with oil).
REMAINING 2018 DROP-OFF SCHEDULE
Nov. 10, 2018
Nov. 24, 2018
Dec. 8, 2018**
Dec. 22, 2018
**Shred day (Limit 50 lbs.)
The following companies provide their services free of charge as a service to the community:
Iron Mountain -- paper shredding and recycling
CACRC -- e-waste recycling
Republic Services -- single stream recycling
The Composting Network -- composting
Since the City established the Recycling Drop-Off Center in August 2010, a total of 1,193 tons have been recycled. Since the current curbside recycling program began in May 2011, a total of 48,822 tons have been recycled. As a result of the City's efforts since 2010 to appropriately dispose of waste tires illegally dumped and collected from residential properties, more than 214,966 waste tires have been transported to the only LDEQ-approved waste tire processor in the City. The tires collected are recycled.
Occupants of residential properties, which are eligible to receive solid waste collection by the City, are also eligible to place up to four (4) tires next to their garbage collection carts on the second collection day of each week (or on Wednesdays in the French Quarter and DDD). Businesses are not eligible for this service.
Residents are reminded that an ordinance was passed earlier this year (Sections 26-415 through 24-430 of the City Code), which established minimum standards for the storage, sale, repair, removal, installation, hauling and disposal of motor vehicle tires and established a stronger enforcement process with significant fines and penalties.
It is illegal to store more than 20 tires on a property without authorization from LDEQ as a registered Waste Tire Generator or to transport more than 20 tires without a permit from LDEQ, which must be prominently displayed on the vehicle transporting the tires. All tires must be covered to prevent standing water which could become breeding grounds for rodents and mosquitoes that could carry the West Nile or Zika viruses. All Waste Tire Generators must keep LDEQ-approved manifests on site, for a minimum of five years, which document that tires have been legally transported and disposed of by an LDEQ-permitted transporter and tire processor.
The Department of Sanitation is working the NOPD, the Department of Safety and Permits and the Department of Finance to ensure that all tire shops are in full compliance with City and State Codes. The owners of properties that are found not to be in compliance will be cited. As a result of a joint enforcement action involving LDEQ's Criminal Investigation Division and NOPD, arrests have been made for illegally transporting and disposing of tires in Orleans Parish.

Les ReBelles - New choreography with Nathalie Gomes Adams
Join our all-female performance troupe celebrating the 1920s, 1960s, turn of the 20th century with French Can Can and more. Think 1920s Flapper, 1960s Gogo, turn of the Century French Cancan, etc. All that, with a French twist to it!
Les Rebelles of NOLA celebrate the women of New Orleans and connect them through dance regardless of age, shape and background. During our classes you will learn a choreography meant to be performed (performing is optional), become part of a family of supportive women and improve your dance skills.
Our Season goes from September-June. And there are 3 courses/year.
We offer 2 courses a week as well. You can sign up for one or both if you wish.
MONDAY is a faster pace class with less breakdown. The focus is on a brand new choreography.
WEDNESDAY breaks down the fundamentals of the style of dance being taught during that particular course and teaches you a different choreography than the one taught on Monday.
Choose: - 1 course: $150/person - Both courses (Monday and Wednesday within the same time period): $225.00 - Annual Pass=3 courses: $375 (1 course a week for the whole year) - Add a second weekly course to the annual pass for $75
