FAITH, HOPE & CORRECTION

1ST ADVENT SUNDAY

Advent takes place over 4 Sundays prior to Christmas. Each of these Sundays represent a divine idea that has the realized potential to embody the birth of the Christ. The anticipation of Christ’s birth spans 4 Sundays, coinciding with the Winter Solstice, and the Sundays before Christmas are dedicated to the divine ideas of Faith, Peace, Love, and Joy. This magical time of Advent portends the eventual return of the Sun after the winter solstice, and the days grow longer once again. The return of light is also representative of increasing spiritual awareness, as we grow in Christ consciousness.

Faith and hope are instrumental in these dark times, and embracing hope means that we place our focus on our faith for 2 Sundays in a row, which may very well be no accident, and the necessary and needed divine surprise. Join us this Sunday, December 3 at Unity Windward for the very-first-second-first Sunday of Advent when we’ll focus once again on faith, hope, and the importance of the correction of error. Making room in our hearts is as essential as finding room in the inn. Removing the blocks to love and harmony corrects our lives into forgiveness, and births the Christ within us.

Come one, come all to celebrate the birth of the Christ in you, in me, and in all mankind. We’ll celebrate good will to all people with the wondrous birth of our Master Teacher, Jesus! Let’s merrily join together as one!

Give, receive, and celebrate the gift of our heart-opening candle-lighting service on Christmas Eve. Ignite your Christ-Light and shine out into the world! The healing light of Christmas gently bursts into flame! Allow this inner light to illumine our way on Christmas Eve! Shine the lights of Faith, Peace, Love, Joy and Christ in you!

The Holy Bible was never meant to be a dead, lifeless rule book, so we’ll use a variety of translations to enliven the scriptures. The Ancient Christian tradition held the loftiest approach to scripture as allegorical or spiritual, so we’ll experience it as the Living Word! With an open heart and an open mind experience the lessons and stories from the Bible that apply to all of us, right here, and right now. Through the lenses of Unity Metaphysicians, and other contemporary Christian teachers discover what the Bible means for us today.

The dominant, literal, modern approach to scripture minimizes the experience of a vastly rich text. An impoverished literality of much of modern Christianity detracts from the bountiful beauty, and magnificent mystery of the depth of metaphysical exploration. Much of what is popularly known as Christianity receives a good bit of negative press. Contemporary Christianity has been denounced as lacking integrity, as well as there being a mean-spirited, exclusivist nature to much of the Christianity of today. There are those who describe this phenomenon as ‘Churchianity.’ These attributes often result in people no longer identifying themselves as Christian. Large swaths of people no longer attend church, yet they seek ways to practice their spirituality, rather than merely profess their religion. Discovering Fire examines and explores some of the practices of the first centuries communities of Christ, and may very well be a handbook of those who desire a more authentic, practical faith. Discovering Fire might be the bridge between primitive Christianity, and a newly fresh-born Christianity of today.
