St. Brendan's ABCs of Christmas was X-traordinary! We thoroughly enjoyed this unique Pageant presented after Sunday's worship. A thousand thanks to Pastor Elaine for coming up with the idea and for writing such thoughtful and clever verses for the alphabet letters.

An Advent Prayer

Lord Jesus,

Master of both the light and the darkness, send your Holy Spirit upon our preparations for Christmas.

We who have so much to do seek quiet spaces to hear your voice each day.

We who are anxious over many things look forward to your coming among us.

We who are blessed in so many ways long for the complete joy of your kingdom.

We whose hearts are heavy seek the joy of your presence.

We are your people, walking in darkness, yet seeking the light.

To you we say, “Come Lord Jesus!”

Sunday services in storm conditions

Under wintry conditions, the first rule of thumb is to stay safe. Stay put, even if a power outage means you might not be able to Zoom in.

We will send an email blast Saturday evening or Sunday morning with service information and a Zoom link if there is a significant storm in progress or about to hit. If you have questions, please feel free to call or email John at 207-505-2474 or arrison17@gmail.com.

Scripture Notes

First Sunday after Christmas

On this first Sunday after Christmas, our attention is directed by the readings beyond the historical event of Jesus’ birth to its cosmic and saving meaning. The Gospel reading is the theological prologue to the Gospel of John. This early Christian poem

describes Jesus as the incarnation (en-fleshment) of the divine Word who is one with God, through whom God creates and redeems the world. It also expresses our unity with God by grace and faith. Thus, the birth of Jesus is not simply an event in his story but also the event of our lives.

This Sunday’s theme, then, expresses the double role of the Church’s liturgy. It usually celebrates historical events, but in our action together as the people of God, the historical events are revealed as eternally saving events as well. In the liturgy, time and space are transcended and the events of history become the events of our own lives as individuals and as a community.
