Forgiveness Sunday

Καλή Σαρακοστή!

A blessed lent!

The Holy Fathers have appointed the commemoration of Adam's exile from the Paradise of delight here, on the eve of the holy Forty-day Fast, demonstrating to us not by simple words, but by actual deeds, how beneficial fasting is for man, and how harmful and destructive are insatiety and the transgressing of the divine commandments. For the first commandment that God gave to man was that of fasting, which the first-fashioned received but did not keep; and not only did they not become gods, as they had imagined, but they lost even that blessed life which they had, and they fell into corruption and death, and transmitted these and innumerable other evils to all of mankind. The God-bearing Fathers set these things before us today, that by bringing to mind what we have fallen from, and what we have suffered because of the insatiety and disobedience of the first-fashioned, we might be diligent to return again to that ancient bliss and glory by means of fasting and obedience to all the divine commands. Taking occasion from today's Gospel (Matt. 6:14-21) to begin the Fast unencumbered by enmity, we also ask forgiveness this day, first from God, then from one another and all creation.

(Sunday, March 1)

Events

THANK YOU!

To all who contributed to our first ever Metropolis of Chicago Project Hope Sunday! We were able to pack over 50 meals for those in need.

110 Stories

We are excited to announce the 110 Stories series. In celebration of our 110th Anniversary we will be chronicling the stories of the faithful stewards who made All Saints the welcoming, loving, and holy, place that it is today. This will take may forms and we can't wait to see what different forms this will take.

110 Stories History Series: all are invited to submit photos with a short (or not so short) story from the life and history of this parish, or its parishioners. We want this to be an open expression to celebrate everyone from the first Greek immigrants who settled in Joliet to to those who are now converting to seek shelter in the safe harbor of our church. We will be sharing at least one story a week here in the bulletin and on social media.

110 Stories Podcast: Our Parish Council President Al Roechener will be interviewing stewards who particularly left their mark on our community in some way. The first episode will be taped live in the Church Hall on Sunday March 1. Al will be interviewing Panagiotis Mihalopoulos, the iconogropher who along with Fr. Steve designed and created the iconographic program that has reshaped the face of our church.

Some episodes will be taped live in church, others will be filmed privately so be sure to check in often.
