Vestry Candidate Bios

A very special thank you to Kevin, Mary, Debbie, and Beth who have decided to participate in our Vestry Elections. Nominations were taken from the congregation and all nominees were then verified to see if they met the requirements to serve and then invited to attend a discernment meeting and asked to pray about their calling. Below you will see a brief biography from each candidate who accepted the nomination. We will elect new vestry members at our Annual Meeting on January 28th at 10 AM.

Kevin Brennan

  1. Years at COR: 3 years while on vacation and 3 years full-time once becoming a resident of SC.
  2. Ministries involved in: Current member of the Revive Committee, member of Serve AOM, serving the community with backpack giveaway and the Christmas Outreach. I also coached soccer at VBS this past year and volunteered at the Drive Thru Nativity. I have also performed administrative work as required.
  3. Gifts you bring to the service of the Leadership Team: Administration, organizational, and prior teaching experience at the college level. Formal education, work experience in management positions, and life experience through teamwork are fits given to share by God.
  4. Why would you like to serve? Once we decided to move in 2016 we needed to find a new church to worship in SC. We attended the Easter 2016 service and knew this was the church we wanted. The clergy, the parishioners, and the service were more than what we expected. We were amazed by the programs and ministries offered. I would like to use the gifts given to serve COR and the community. To serve as directed by God.

Mary Bryan

  1. Years at COR: 35 years
  2. Ministries involved in: Altar Guild, COR Groups, COR Cares Card Ministry, former Sunday School teacher and youth volunteer.
  3. Gifts you bring to the service of the Leadership Team: I have a servant's heart and gifts of mercy, discernment, and giving. I love working with children and youth.
  4. Why would you like to serve? I love my church and I know Fr. Ron needs help and I want to offer support for our clergy and to see our church grow and move forward.

Parent & Kids Corner

Parents,

This week we began a new unit that will help us learn “How does the Holy Spirit help Christians?” The next few weeks will be spent hearing stories to gain an understanding of this question.

We began with an activity of hearing a list of words to see what we could remember, we worked individually and together as a team to try and remember the list of 20 words that was read aloud. We built upon these memory skills with an ending activity of trying to remember details about each other. By retelling what we hear and see we are acting as a witness. Jesus called his disciples to be His witnesses and tell others all they had heard and seen about him. In our story, we heard how Jesus left earth and returned to heaven, but he did not leave us with nothing. He sent his Holy Spirit to be with us and help us do God's work.

You can review with these questions:

  1. Do we need help to share the gospel and live for Jesus, why?
  2. The Holy Spirit is our helper, has the Holy Spirit helped you, how?
  3. What is the fruit of the Spirit?

Have a great week!

~Ms. Heidi

About the Church of the Resurrection

The Church of the Resurrection (COR) is a church community whose life is centered in Jesus Christ and whose identity is shaped by the Word of God. We trace our history to the New Testament church, but our local life began, when our church was founded. By tradition a part of the worldwide Anglican Communion, The Church of the Resurrection (COR) belongs to the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina. We worship God together as a church family using forms of worship that are both traditional and contemporary, always in conformity to Anglican standards in the historic Book of Common Prayer. We are, first and foremost, followers of Jesus Christ.
