Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost

... maybe that’s the most startling revelation of our parable for this morning… the shocking revelation that in terms of those who are working on behalf of God’s upside-down, topsy-turvy, ridiculously free and unconditional kingdom of love and grace, we are often the petty, pious penny-pinchers… those who are not quite so sure we want that grace to be quite so free… those who rather like the way the world does math and the way the Church does grace…

Sermon given by Pastor Elaine Hewes on September 20th.

The Gratitude Corner

We are grateful for the beautiful colors of fall.

Giving our Priorities Shape (GPS) Action Item

This week's GPS invitation, as we explore the Living Waters theme for the 2026 Season of Creation, is to learn about and advocate for the Clean Water Act, which the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is currently revising and weakening in deeply disturbing ways.

The Clean Water Act is more than 50 years old. Congress passed it in 1972 to establish federal protections for our waterways and wetlands and to prevent pollution of our water nationwide. You can learn about the proposed change at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). This nonprofit group has been in existence for more than 50 years and uses science, litigation, and environmental experts and activists to confront the climate crisis and ensure the rights of people to clean air, water, and healthy communities. Click the button below to go to their website, where you can sign a petition about these proposed changes to the Clean Water Act.

While you are at this website, there are 27 more petitions you might consider signing as part of your commitment to Care for Creation!

Legacy Evening and Potluck

What values do you want to pass on to your children and grandchildren?

What wisdom do you want to impart to your family?

How would you like them to remember you?

Peter Tarlton has wanted to offer this opportunity to discuss these questions and others about our legacies. Join us on Tuesday, October 13th at 5:00 p.m. for a

potluck dinner and discussion. Sign up below.

Stewardship

We would appreciate it if you could submit your pledge by the end of September so that the Finance Ministry can begin drafting a budget in October.

We thank you for your continuing support of our beloved church.

Gratefully,
