Church Family:

As you may already know, Pastor Ashley has tested positive for COVID-19. She is, of course, isolating and resting at home - at this point not seriously ill but home, in bed and definitely feeling affects of the virus! I know that you will keep her in your prayers and will be wanting to know how she is in this next week.

Ashley is always good to respond to calls and texts - however for this next week, please contact Barb( 419-680-2103), Nancy (678-877-6065) or Lee in the church office for any needs you might have or to check on Ashley. The more we let her rest, the better. A reminder that Lee is in the office Tues-Thurs from 9-3. Thank you and please keep Ashley, Trey and William in your prayers - it is now our turn to minister to our Pastor!

 We Gather to Worship
Chiming of the Hour
Call to Worship
As we enter the season of Lent
remind us anew of your saving grace,
and of our chance for rebirth.
Amidst the storms and floods of life,
teach us the ways of life and death,
that we may use this season
as a time of gratitude for the past,
and a time of hope for the future,
through Christ our Lord. Amen.

  *Hymn xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

When we are called to sing your praise with hearts so filled with pain
That we would rather sit and weep or stand up to complain,
Remind us, God, you understand the burdens that we bear;
You, too, have walked the shadowed way and known our deep despair.
When we are called to sing your praise and cannot find our voice,
Because our losses leaves us now no reason to rejoice.
Remind us, God, that you accept our sad laments in prayer;
You, too, have walked the shadowed way and known our deep despair.
When we are called to sing your praise and life ahead looks grim,
Still give us faith and hope enough to break forth in a hymn,
A thankful hymn, great God of Love, that you are everywhere;
You walk the shadowed way with us and keep us in your care.

*Affirmation of Faith
The Apostles' Creed
 I believe in God, the Father almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
On the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
*Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen, amen.

 We Grow Through the Spoken Word
Old Testament Lesson
Psalm 25:4-10
Teach me your ways, O LORD;
make them known to me.
Teach me to live according to your truth,
 for you are my God, who saves me.
I always trust in you.
Remember, O LORD, your kindness and constant love
which you have shown from long ago.
Forgive the sins and error of my youth.
In your constant love and goodness,
remember me, LORD!
Because the LORD is righteous and good,
               He teaches sinners the path they should follow.
He leads the humble in the right way
 and teaches them his will.
With faithfulness and love he leads
all who keep his covenant and obey his commands.

Morning Prayer and The Lord's Prayer
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us,
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
For ever and ever. Amen

Lord, may our prayer rise like incense in your sight,
May this place be filled with the fragrance of Christ. Amen.

*Hymn xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Come Away with Me
Come away with me to a quiet place,
apart from the world with its frantic pace,
to pray, reflect, and seek God's grace.
Refrain: Come away with me. Come away.
Come and pray with me on a gentle sea,
on top of a hill in the Galilee,
in gardens like Gethsemane.
Come today with thoughts of the countless ways
that God's steadfast love blesses all our days,
and join with me in silent praise.
Come and say, in words whispered from your soul,
the feelings and actions you can't control.
Your spirit needs to be made whole.

*Presentation of Offering and Doxology
 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him, all creatures here below;
praise him above, ye heavenly host;
praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

*Gospel Reading
Luke 22:39-46
Jesus left the city and went, as he usually did, to the Mount of Olives; and the disciples went with him. When he arrived at the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.”
Then he went off from them about the distance of a stone’s throw and knelt down and prayed. “Father,” he said, “if you will, take this cup of suffering away from me. Not my will, however, but thy will be done.” An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. In great anguish he prayed even more fervently; his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.
Rising from his prayer, he went back to the disciples and found them asleep, worn out by their grief. He said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you will not fall into temptation.”

Sermon xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
*Hymn xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Who Is He in Yonder Stall
Who is he in yonder stall
at whose feet the shepherds fall?
'Tis the Lord, O wondrous story!
'Tis the Lord, the King of glory;
at his feet we humbly fall,
crown him, crown him Lord of all!
Lo, at midnight who is he
prays in dark Gethsemane? [Refrain]
Who is he in Calvary's throes
asks for blessings on his foes? [Refrain]

Hear From You
This year during Lent we will be sending the devotional every morning. Please consider writing one, or more, from one of the subjects on the list. You can take a look at the list by using the link below. Please contact Barb Combs at if you are interested or have any questions.

·        Is there a certain way to write a devotion?
NO! Devotions are very personal and you should write from your heart. You may want to include a scripture or two that speaks to you. Some people finish with a short prayer. Your devotion can be as long or short as you need. This is not a grammar test, but rather an opportunity to share what is in your heart with your church family.

·        What do I do to contribute a devotion?
Pick a subject that interests you. Let Barb know what date(s) you would like to take. When you have written your devotion please email it to

·        What happens after I email my devotional?
Lee will get the devotional from Barb and set it up to be sent on your date.

·        Is there a certain format I should use to send the devotion?
You can send your devotion as an email or a Word document. Please don’t use .pdf as that can not be copied into the mail service that Lee uses. If you want to include a certain picture send a copy of that as .jpg or .png file.

If you want help, please reach out to Barb.

Backpack Buddies PLUS SUMC = Children fed!

Backpack Buddies provides food for students all throughout Coweta County, including the schools in Senoia.   Our Church has a goal to provide 50 bags per month.

We need two families/couples/individuals to sign up to prepare the bags per month.

We need March Covered. Can you help?

It’s an easy way to make a difference right in our community. The volunteers each month can determine their own time to volunteer. You will be responsible for both buying and packing. You can pack at home or at the church. We can reimburse you for the food. Instructions and support will be provided. To sign up, email either Jon Morris at or Doug Kolbenschlag at

If you would like to support this ministry, you can also donate money. In the memo line on your check write “Backpack Buddies” or give online by check, credit or debit card using this LINK.

Each bag given to a child costs about $2.50. If you would like to sponsor 10 bags, it would be $25, as an example.

This will be an upgoing ministry throughout 2021
Paper Drive!

The I-58 Mission is in desperate need of TOILET PAPER and PAPER TOWELS.

And don't you want to win a homemade pie from Ashley? The more paper goods you donate the more pies Ashley will make!

At my house we just cannot function without these two necessities.
How about you?

Please bring some toilet paper and/or paper towels to either the church or I-58. We are collecting for this special drive through March 21st.

I-58 takes donations Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 10-2.

If the church office is not open you may leave your donations
on Ashley's porch.

Calling All Artists!
How have you captured one of God’s many creations in your art?

Art comes in many forms: poetry, painting, photography, knitting, pottery, cross stitch, flower arranging, handmade jewelry, and the list is endless.

Please plan to share your expressions of God’s handiwork with all of SUMC on Palm Sunday, March 28th. Everyone is invited to participate!

The art will be hung/displayed outside to be viewed after the outside Sunday service, weather permitting. More details coming in the near future.

Spirit Journey

Want to have a good time one afternoon? Come and learn about some Really Bad Girls of the Bible, as we gather on Thursday Feb 25, at 1:30 in the Fellowship Hall for our Spirit Journey Small Connexion Group.

This week we are going to hear about Athaliah, known as ‘The (Not So) Dearest Mommy’ who was bad and proud of it. Or was she bad?! Something unusual about Athaliah is that, for a bad girl, she is actually named and is mentioned through three chapters of 2nd Chronicles (chpts. 22-24).

It has been a lot of fun reading and learning about these women of the Bible who we don’t hear a lot about during any other Bible Study. Come and join in as we discuss them and various other topics that seem to come up during the discussion! I still have a couple books if you would like to come and see what it’s all about!

Call or text me, Barb Combs, if you have any questions or would like a book. See you Thursday!

Lenten Study

Our Lenten Study this year is using the book,

Savior: What the Bible Says about the Cross, by Magrey deVega.

We will meet on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 either in the Fellowship Hall or via Zoom. Everyone in the church is welcome to come and be a part of this during Lent. In this study, we’ll consider that, just as our relationships with other people in our lives grow and evolve, so does our relationship with God. Not only is it allowed to change, it is expected to. It’s not necessarily because God changes, but because we do. Our situations change. We learn, gain experience. We develop new habits and relationships. Each time those things happen, our understanding of God enters a new phase. Sometimes these growth spurts surface in such questions as: Why did Jesus have to die? How exactly does Jesus save us? And what does that mean for our belief and our behavior?

On February 24, we will discuss the way of understanding Jesus’ death on the cross: that he died in our place; was our substitute; and that he repaid our debt, so we don’t have to. The world is based on rules, that actions have consequences and that wrongful actions deserve punishment.

I hope you will take time during these next 6 weeks of Lent to learn more about Jesus and the cross. If you would like a book, call or text me and I will make sure it gets delivered to you. I’m happy to answer any questions you might have! Let’s journey through Lent together!
