Our congregation's purpose statement: Called and empowered to proclaim the radical love of Christ through lives of service. | |
Dear Siblings in Christ,
What a week it has been so far! The kids are having a great time playing Gagaball, making new friends in their cabin groups, and gathering for evening campfire. As we have learned about Legendary Bible characters, we have taken time to talk about who are the legendary people in our lives that have inspired our faith. We are looking forward to sharing pictures of our time together this week! Thank you for the support in order to send us all here for a faith filled adventure!
Faithfully yours,
Pastor Naomi

July Community Service Emphasis: School Supplies for San Juan Bautista
It’s that time of year again! Parents
are thinking about where they might come up with the resources to purchase
school supplies for their children.
For the month of July, San Juan Bautista Lutheran Church and Lutheran Church of the Foothills are partnering to provide about 30 neighborhood students with the supplies needed to start their next school adventure. Over 45% of the community at San Juan Bautista is of school age and so many of the families in their community face many challenges, not the least of which is purchasing school supplies.
A list of supplies is available on the table in the church narthex. Feel free to take one with you. Specific needs include, but are not limited to:
- backpacks,
- wide-ruled paper,
- pencils, pens, markers, crayons, and
- monetary donations.
You can help by donating any of the above during this month. A box is available by the display table in the narthex to place items you donate.
You can also help by giving a monetary donation by using the Community Service envelopes on the display table. Make checks payable to “Lutheran Church of the Foothills” and note “Community Service” in the memo line. Place your donations in the offering basket or mail them to the church. You can also give online by using the QR code in the Sunday worship bulletin or the Giving page on our website. Finally, any loose cash placed in the offering basket is automatically designated for the current Community Service emphasis.
Thank you so much for supporting this month’s Community Service emphasis and your generous support throughout the year.

The Peanut Butter Party Has Arrived!
The Interfaith Community Services (ICS) 2025 Peanut Butter Party begins Tuesday, July 1, and runs through Friday, August 1. It's a month of friendly competition, community spirit, and helping food-insecure families during the critical summer months--one peanut butter jar at a time!
Bring in your peanut butter jars (preferably 12 or 16 oz.) and add to the display in the narthex. If you choose to drop off your donations at the Northwest Food Bank (2820 W. Ina Rd.) or Eastside Food Drop-Off (8701 E. Old Spanish Trail), you will need to fill out and bring the 2025 PB Party Competition Form for your jars to count toward the Lutheran Church of the Foothills total. Prefer to donate from home? You can also shop on Amazon and take advantage of free Prime delivery directly to ICS! Just CLICK HERE to see the shopping list and complete your order.
If you have any questions, please contact Becky Lococo at blococo@icstucson.org

You Have Made It Possible
At the Refugee Baby Shower on June 20, we had an opportunity to visit with Connie Phillips, CEO of Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest (LSS-SW). Connie Phillips asked us to tell our congregation “Thank you.” She specifically said, “You have made it possible for refugees in Tucson to make it through these past six months.”
Since January 24, 2025, the LSS-SW Refugee Crisis Fund has raised over $600,000 to support newly arrived refugees in Arizona. At the beginning of July, they will have $70,000 remaining in that fund to help 70 refugee families in Tucson and 120 refugee families in Phoenix. The greatest needs now are:
-
Finding employers who are willing to hire refugees (employment has been less than LSS-SW had hoped for). If you know of a possible employer or want to help encourage refugee employment, please let LSS-SW know; their Tucson office can be reached at 520-748-2300 or requests-comments@lss-sw.org.
-
Helping to pay rents and utilities for recent refugees. These costs have been rising (one way this happens is when the monthly rental fee no longer includes utilities), and you can help by giving an online donation at LSS-SW Donate to Refugees.
To learn more information about the status of LSS-SW’s Refugee and Immigration Services, pick up a printed “June 4 Zoom Recap” from the Activities Counter in the Narthex.

You Can Be a Part of the A/V Team
Each Sunday during worship a small team of people make sure everyone can see, hear, and feel connected—both in the sanctuary and online. One volunteer operates the sound while another operates the video. We’re looking for a few more helping hands to join this important ministry.
Why volunteer? Serving on the A/V Team is a wonderful way to:
- Take pride in helping worship reach people near and far
-
Learn something new in a relaxed, supportive environment
-
Make a meaningful difference every time you serve
-
Enjoy getting to know other volunteers better
You don’t need to be “tech-savvy”—if you can click a mouse, push a button, or follow simple instructions, you already have what it takes! We’ll provide all the training you need, and you’ll never serve alone until you feel comfortable.
Volunteering once a month (or as often as you like) makes a big difference. If you’d like to learn more or give it a try, talk to Bryan Daum (daum5735@yahoo.com; 520-577-1782) or Stewart McDonald (revstewart@lcftucson.org; 520-360-7794) or come see us in the a/v booth after worship.

Be a Part of Electing Our Next Churchwide Bishop
Join almost 100 other volunteers who will be giving a friendly and helpful welcome to fellow Lutherans attending the 2025 Churchwide Assembly this summer in Phoenix. You’ll be assisting members of the Assembly who are there to vote on various issues and policies, including electing our new churchwide bishop and churchwide secretary (terms are expiring). You’ll be able to join some amazing worship services. Volunteering your time and talents will give you an opportunity to visit with fellow Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) Christians from congregations all over the United States and the Caribbean.
ELCA Churchwide Assemblies are held every three years at various locations around the nation, and it is an honor to be involved in whatever way you can—especially when this Assembly is so near to us. Volunteers are needed at the Phoenix Convention Center from July 26 through August 2, 2025, to assist with airport and hotel greetings, on-site registration, worship support, tech assistance, luggage room, and more. Volunteers pay for their own expenses and there is a discount hotel rate for volunteers. To learn more visit the Grand Canyon Synod website at https://www.gcsynod.org/cwa; to peruse the various volunteer shifts and tasks, click on the orange “Sign up here” button and scroll down to below the “About You” fields on the registration form.
Let’s give our Churchwide guests a “hot” welcome to the Grand Canyon Synod!
