Dear Siblings in Christ,

In this world, all of us are unfinished. Every vocational responsibility we have–to our family, friends, neighbors, creation–represents an opportunity to grow in love, excellence, and faithfulness. How will you continue to grow in your faithfulness to God, and in service to your neighbor?

Faithfully,

Pastor Naomi

—COMMUNITY SERVICE—

ELCA Fund for Leaders

The Community Service giving emphasis for March is the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) Fund for Leaders, also known as FLIM. The Fund has been providing full and partial scholarships to seminary students since 2000. Since that first year, the ELCA Fund for Leaders has supported over 1,100 qualified candidates with more than $28 million in scholarship funds. Because the ELCA is facing a large shortage of pastors over the next several years, the goal of FLIM is to provide full tuition to all seminary students, so that no one enters the ministry with debt. For the past 20 years, we have held an annual golf tournament, the Rev. Ken Ahlstrand Memorial FLIM Golf Classic, to support FLIM. During that time, we have donated over $210,000 to the fund. There are several ways you can help. If you golf, register to play in the tournament on April 17th. This is a fun day of golf with lots of prizes, a dinner, and a short program at the The Views Golf Club in Oro Valley.

  • If you're not a golfer, you can participate by being a premier, tournament, or hole sponsor.
  • Attend the post-tournament dinner.
  • Sponsor a participant with a donation in any amount.

To give monetary gifts, use the Community Service giving envelopes on the display table in the Lobby or make checks payable to "Lutheran Church of the Foothills" and mark your donation "Fund for Leaders". Place your donation in the Sunday offering basket or mail it to the church. You can also use your smartphone's app to give online using the QR code published in Sunday's worship bulletin. Finally, your Sunday dollars (loose dollar bills placed in the offering basket) will be automatically designated for this month's Community Service emphasis. ~Community Service team

Primavera Men's Shelter: April 21 Next Delivery

Thank you to all of the volunteers who brought and helped deliver items to the Shelter. To participate by providing needed items or delivering the groceries for next month, please sign-up on the clipboard on the Activities Counter in the lobby. We--and the folks at Primavera Men's Shelter--appreciate your participation in this monthly ministry. Food items are due to the church by Friday, April 21, 1:00p. ~ Community Service Team

On-Going Community Service Ministries:

  • Non-perishable food collection: Non-perishable food items placed in the basket at the west end of the Activities Counter help feed hungry people who come to the Interfaith Community Services (ICS) Food Banks. If you would prefer to give a monetary donation make checks payable to Lutheran Church of the Foothills, mark your donation “ICS,” and put it in the Sunday offering basket. ~ Sheryl Perry.
  • Proceeds from your pocket change that are put into our Hunger Loose Change Jar (on the stand inside the entrance to our worship area) are shared with our church’s World Hunger program. Thanks for your generosity. February total: $86. ~ Charles & Pat Erickson.
  • To help with our church's response to current crises here in the United States and around the world, look for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) Lutheran Disaster Response forms on the Activities Counter in the lobby. ~ Community Service Team.

Donate Pet Supplies

Sister José Women's Center, a shelter and day center that provides homeless women in Tucson a path towards independence, is still taking donations for the pets of guests. In addition to dry foods, the Center needs canned food with pull tabs for dogs and cats, kitty litter, dog sweaters, and coats and beds for both dogs and cats. The Center will also take new or gently used pet supplies such as beds, leashes, collars, and more. Place your donations in the bin under the Community Service table in the lobby. ~ Patrice Frame

—LIFE TOGETHER—

2023 Lenten Activities

Services start at 6:30p in the Sanctuary and will continue every Wednesday through March 29. Evening worship will be led by Rev. Stewart McDonald and based on the services from the Celtic Christian Retreat Center on the Isle of Iona in western Scotland.

Soup suppers return! Join us at 5:00p beginning March 1 in the Activities Room for a supper of an assortment of soups and breads. In order to reduce the use of paper products, please bring your own bowl, flatware, and glass. (Extras will be provided in case you forget.) At 5:30p in the Activities Room, Rev. Stewart McDonald will present a series entitled, "Celtic Spirituality and Saints." We will need at least 5 volunteers each Wednesday to bring soup and bread. Sign-up sheet is located on the Activities Counter.

Adult Faith Formation

Every Sunday at 9:00a in the Activities Room, Faith Formation will be delving into the series, Experiencing God. Meet the Creator who is flesh and spirit for you. Enter into an authentic encounter with a God who enters human history and transforms our destiny from death to life. Ten Luther Seminary scholars and teachers of the church connect us with the God who is present as Creator, Savior and Spirit. Experiencing God is an intimate glimpse into the heart of God that will help form a mature image of the triune God. Click here or on the picture to access the Participant Guide. Pastor Naomi.

Thursday Journey

Join us in person and via Zoom in the Activities Room at 10:00a or at 7:00p (Zoom only) as we discuss the ELCA's draft statement on "Civic Life and Faith." Topics include:

  • How is God's invitation to discipleship lived out in a democracy?
  • How do Christians address controversial civics issues?
  • What are Lutheran views on civic life?
  • What are the objectives of democracy in the U.S.?
  • What's faith-based living got to do with civic life?
  • How do we go in peace to love and serve the Lord in civic life?
