At that time, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Hebrew called Bethesda which has five porticoes. In these lay a multitude of invalids, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water; for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool, and troubled the water; whoever stepped in first after the troubling of the water was healed of whatever disease he had.

One man was there, who had been ill for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him and knew that he had been lying there a long time, he said to him, "Do you want to be healed?" The sick man answered him, "Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is troubled, and while I am going another steps down before me." Jesus said to him, "Rise, take up your pallet, and walk." And at once the man was healed, and he took up his pallet and walked.

Now that day was the sabbath. So the Jews said to the man who was cured, "It is the sabbath, it is not lawful for you to carry your pallet." But he answered them, "The man who healed me said to me, 'Take up your pallet, and walk.' "They asked him, "Who is the man who said to you, 'Take up your pallet, and walk'?" Now the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, as there was a crowd in the place.

Afterward, Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, "See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse befall you." The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him.

The Greek Orthodox Metropolis announced the publication of its 2021 Annual Impact Report,

“Bearing Fruit for Generations to Come”
The new report provides an update on the state of the Metropolis’ finances, operations, ministries, programs, and progress toward its long-term vision. The report also provides data for 2021 relative to the sacramental health of the Metropolis of Chicago. Launched in 2020, the initiative seeks to raise awareness about the current state of the Metropolis and the long-term trends of the rites central to Orthodox Christianity in the Midwest (e.g., baptisms, marriages, funerals, etc.).

“I encourage our faithful to read the Annual Impact Report and to prayerfully consider how they can help us have greater transformative impact on our churches, communities, and world,” said His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael.

Imagine suffering from an illness for 38 years.

Imagine seeing countless people receive healing, while you’re powerless to reach it in time.

How would that affect you?

Would you even want to be healed?

In this Sunday’s Gospel reading, Jesus encounters a paralyzed man.

The man has spent 38 years at the edge of a pool, waiting for his chance.

Because this wasn’t just any old pool…

An angel would trouble the waters, and the first person to enter would be healed.

But it’s hard to get there in time when you’re paralyzed...

And it’s incredibly hard to watch people be healed while you remain stuck.

For 38 years!

So, when Christ encounters the man, He asks a simple yet powerful question:

"Do you want to be healed?"

The man says yes, and receives more than he could have imagined.

Because he is healed both physically and spiritually.

Jesus sends him away to live renewed, walking in righteousness and holiness:

“See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse befall you.”

And, in this Sunday’s reading from the Book of Acts, we see two more healings that lead, not just to physical healing, but to spiritual transformation.

Two healings that lead to new life in Christ.

Want to learn more?

The risen Lord is ready to heal you.

But is that what you want?
