Fr. Nareg Terterian, Pastor

We are grateful to witness continued growth in our worshipping community. Average Sunday Badarak attendance has increased by 41% year-to-date in 2026, compared to the 2025 median attendance of 83.

This is a clear sign of renewed participation in the spiritual life of our parish.

On Sunday, April 19, 92 faithful gathered for worship.

"Were you one of them?"

We warmly invite everyone to join us each Sunday at St. Sarkis Church to experience the beauty of the Badarak and the strength of our faith community.🙏

SALT & LIGHT YOUTH MINISTRY

Reported by Mrs. Nyrie Bedrossian

On Friday April 17th, our Salt & Light Youth Group gathered for their final session of the Spring season. The lesson for the evening was named “Walking with the Risen Jesus”.

During the breakout groups, the facilitators led the youth through a carefully guided discussion which addressed issues such as “Is it ok to have doubts and uncertainties about my faith?”. The lesson reflects on a reading from the Gospel of John 20:19-31, which tells the story of Jesus appearing to the disciples after his Resurrection, and the doubt displayed by one of the disciples, Thomas. The children engaged in meaningful conversation about what challenges they face in their daily lives that could cause them to have doubts about their own faith and what they can do to grow through those challenges.

After the breakout groups, all the facilitators and youth gathered in the Sanctuary, where Der Hayr and few of our senior members reflected on the lesson for the group. We are happy to have concluded another successful season of Salt & Light Youth Group meetings and we look forward to celebrating with all the kids at our Summer Kick-Off Social on June 5th.

LAST WEEK'S SERMON

Why “Born Again” Might Not Mean What You’ve Been Told

On Sunday, April 19, 2026, at St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church, Fr. Nareg reflects on the true meaning of being “born again” through the lens of the Armenian Church’s tradition.

Drawing from the encounter between Christ and Nicodemus, this homily challenges a purely formula-based understanding of faith and invites us into something deeper: transformation. To be “born from above” is not simply to profess belief, but to become a new creation through the life of the Church, the Holy Spirit, and the sacraments.

Through the powerful example of St. Paul’s conversion, we see that authentic faith is not self-centered or superficial, but requires leaving behind the old self and embracing a new identity in Christ. This renewal begins in Baptism but continues throughout our lives as we grow, struggle, and are nourished by the Church.

Fr. Nareg reminds us that Christianity is not merely theology to be understood, but a life to be lived. Without the Church, faith risks becoming an abstract idea. Within the Church, however, it becomes a living movement—one that continually renews us through humility, repentance, and spiritual growth.

As we reflect on Green Sunday (Ashkharamadour), we are called to ask ourselves:

Are we simply informed about Christ, or are we truly transformed by Him?

AWAKENED PODCAST

Awakened is a new video podcast created by Archpriest Fr. Nareg Terterian to meet our community at the intersection of real life, deep questions, and spiritual renewal.

Drawing from pastoral encounters, the wisdom and practices of the Armenian Apostolic Church, and the vision of 2026 as the Year of the Revitalization of Spiritual Life, this series creates a safe and thoughtful space to explore faith as a way of life, not just a Sunday activity.

Awakened is an invitation to dig deeper, re-engage intentionally, and nurture a living spirituality within the sacred rhythm of the Church and everyday life.

LITURGICAL CALENDAR

RED SUNDAY

This Sunday, April 26, is the fourth Sunday of Eastertide, known as Red Sunday (Garmir Giragi). The name does not have an ecclesiastical origin. Red is the color of blood, and this may be an appropriate time to honor the memory of the early Christian martyrs. Like last week’s Green Sunday, it is a celebration of nature and life, symbolizing rebirth after the Resurrection of our Lord.
