Welcome to Farm Fiber Day at the Wayland Winter Farmers' Market, which takes place on Sunday, March 1, 2020  from 10 AM to 3 PM  in the lush greenhouses at Russell's Garden Center in Wayland, Massachusetts.
 
We will have 40 fiber vendors attending, seven for the first time,
including Tammy White from Wing & A Prayer Farm (above).

 We will have a map of the fiber vendors locations, 
so that  you will be able to find them all. Additional parking is 
available across the street from Russell's in the Town Center lot.

Plied  is a new yarn line that Karida Collins ( Neighborhood Fiber Co. )  
and Ann Weaver conceived when touring the  Harrisville Designs Mill in New Hampshire. "Our yarns are woolen-spun at Harrisville and hand-dyed in Baltimore. We use a unique dyeing process that  distinguishes our yarn from all other yarns, both commercially dyed and hand dyed,"
says Ann, who is making the trip from Baltimore to join us.


Fitzwilliam Fiber Farm is a women's agricultural collaborative  based in New Hampshire. "We raise two very old and rare breeds of sheep, Teeswater and Wensleydale. Our mission is preserving and promoting  these breeds. Most of our product is natural colored, naturally processed roving from our own flocks, " said Gretchen Wittenborg.
Look for this beautiful sweater "made from within 50 miles of the 
home of the sheep" at their booth.


Don't miss the mohair socks, yarn, apparel and throws from
Moonshine Deign at Keldaby Farm, which is located in Colrain.


"We will bring raw Gotland fleeces, high-quality and well-skirted, breed-specific roving (natural and hand-dyed) from our Gotland, 
Border Leicester, Merino, Llama and Alpaca. Handspun and
 mill-spun yarn, locks and Farm cards," says Katie O'Donnell 
(right, and assisted by her mother Karen O'Donnell) from
  Littles Creek Farm  in Marshfield.

The knowledgable women from the  Worcester County Sheep 
Producers can tell you about the  Baaay State Blanket,
  made from 100% wool grown in  Massachusetts.


"SAORI weaving  is an art of weaving by hand that is dedicated to 
free expression and self-development for everyone, regardless of physical or mental ability, age, or artistic aptitude," said Mihoko   Wakabayashi of  SAORI Worcester .  "During the school vacation week
I offered a Friday trial class. She (below) is 8 years old. This is
her work done in only a two hour session."


Windy Hill Farm  is located in Lakeville. Carol and Richard Tripp  
create homegrown, hand-dyed, hands-on wool and blended yarn, handwoven items, hand knits and roving for spinning and felting.


Looking for fine fiber tools? Stephen Willette will join us with
 his handcrafted fiber art tools: looms, weaving tools (shuttles and
 shed sticks), shawl pins, lucets, naalbinding needles, darning eggs, spindles, yarn bowls, buttons, seam rippers, hair sticks,
 crochet hooks and tapestry needles.


Prado de Lana Sheep Farm  raises Romney,  Lincoln Longwool and 
CVM Romeldale sheep in the  Berkshires.  The farm participates in the  Shave 'Em to Save 'Em  initiative  created by  The Livestock Conservancy . Amanda Barcenas and family will bring some wooly
family members for you to meet!

"We have been using natural dyes for twenty years and have learned  the process to achieve lasting color on our yarns," says Marcia MacDonald of Lana Plantae Yarns in Buxton, ME.  "I am happy to talk
 to customers about the process and about raising livestock in the Northeast." Thank you to Marcia's daughter, Kaya for joining us.

Tidal Yarns naturally dyed yarns are made by Patricia Fortinsky 
in Old Lyme, Connecticut.  "I've just created a new one skein pattern," says Patricia Fortinsky.  Tidal Wave Headband & Socks, 
just one skein of fingering weight makes both."

One of the benefits of moving Farm Fiber Day to Sunday is that 
fiber-loving Wayland Market Saturday vendors can attend, including 
Lyndigo Spice's  Celeste Croxton-Tate (left) and she brought visiting family,  who have fiber skills of their own in the crochet world.


Alice Field from  Foxhill Farm  was  declared champion in the White Fleece and Colored Fleece categories for the second year in a row 
and was named   Supreme Champion  in the  Fleece Competition at the New York Sheep & Wool Festival in October.


You don't have to have seen "Knives Out" to be aware of the  sensation created by the Aran sweater worn by Chris Evans in the movie.
A shopper attending the January Farm Fiber Day bought a sweater's worth of wool from Foxhill Farm when her son asked her to make one.


Our thanks to Wing & A Prayer Farm for driving from Shaftesbury, VT 
to join us. The farm participates in the Shave 'Em to Save 'Em program and has all kinds of workshops that you will want to be aware of if you are looking for a farm adventure.  Tammy White uses natural dyes to make her  "Breed Specific Fiber From  Beloved Flocks."

spindles galore, also niddy-noddies to skein your yarn, boat shuttles 
for weavers, and more," say Jonathan and Sheila Bosworth
of Bosworth Spindles.

Penny Lacroix will teach a  Drop Spindle Spinning class from 
1 to 3 PM on  March 1  during our second Farm Fiber Day.

Laura Busky from  North Brook Farm will have a drop spindle project, giving you another chance to see how it's done. She makes it look
 so  easy! "I am planning to bring four cotton dishtowels that
 I recently finished and a new knitted shawl," she says. "We've also restocked hats and  in anticipation of Farm Fiber Day!"

Katie Sullivan from Cloverworks Farm visited our "regular" 
Saturday market last week and introduced her new Bobolink Yarn.
During the market, she got word from her husband that the first of her
50 ewes had just given birth to twins! She will be up at the farm this weekend, but her mother Judy will be with us to share the new 
yarn as well as frozen lamb from the farm in Irasburg, VT.


  Dirty Water DyeWorks will have a selection of hand dyed yarn,
select knitting kits and patterns, gradient and multi-colored yarn bundles. Stop by to see Stephanie's new samples, including Undertone.


Iris Creek Farm  and  Maple Frost Farm  share space together when 
they go to shows because they both raise Leicester Longwool sheep, which is on the Priority list of the Livestock Breed Conservancy.
 Both Keri Boucher and Kim Mastrianni participate in the

makes open, zipped, and crossbody totes from Greenguard Certified 
vinyl, 100% USA soured materials, hand sewn in her studio one at a time. One that I purchased 5+ years ago remains a favorite project
 bag for durability and style.

tells the story of sheep husbandry with many projects for knitters, spinners and those who hand dye."

Vermont Farmstay Vacations  in Washington, Vermont. In addition 
to yarn, Kim will bring handfelted and handwoven items and pelts.

 "My hand dyed wools and yarns come from my flock and select
 New England farms. I will have knitting, handspinning and felting supplies plus knitting patterns. Single breed fiber is available as 
fleece,  roving and batts," says Lisa Dachinger.

Angora, mohair and llama fiber.


Ken Abert from  Dorchester Farms is making the trip from 
 Provincetown to bring us his colorful yarn and spinning fiber.

"We will bring washed wool, 1/2 pound bags, long wool white and natural colored, medium natural colored, including natural brown 
wool (AKA moorit)" says Mary Pratt from Elihu Farm in Valley Falls, NY. "Well prepared raw fleeces will be for sale as a whole  fleece or partial. Our best fleeces frequently win blue ribbons,  as well  as 'best in show' 
or reserve, including Eastern States Exposition (The Big E)."

Dorothy Benedict from Windy Hamlet Farm/Pan Terra 
has beautiful Icelandic yarn, both natural colored and plant dyed
 and raw Icelandic fleeces.


Haley Bourke makes the trip from Farmington, CT to bring us BourkeKnits, adult and child sized knitted hats, 
homemade pompoms and faux fur pompoms.

Friends in Fiber
 Jan Lashua and Peg Critser bring hand dyed combed top, 
including cashmere, yak, camel, mink and silk blends, a British 
five-breeds combed top collection for a spinner's study, 
Angora fiber and hand knits. 


"My extended family owns a farm in Maine. The wool in my products 
come from my sheep, says Englishman Bay Trading Company's Alicia Monks.  "I make sheep ornaments, dryer balls and wool rocks. I work with local artists to create the blankets, scarves and hats."



" A Hundred Ravens will bring an assortment of our superwash yarns 
 in various weights and fibers, but primarily Merino wool," says 
 owner  Kel Bachus. "We will also have project bags,  stitch 
markers, and knitting and crochet patterns."

Natural and dyed alpaca products are available from
 Artisan Yarns from Hampden Hills Alpacas. Erica Jansons has
been working hard to create a large number of her popular dryer 
balls after selling out immediately during the January Farm Fiber Day.


Do you have a quilt that you started ages ago, but haven't had the

"My yarns are all wool and wool blends," says Mary Anna Yram from 
Grey Sky Yarn. "I use bright colors and unconventional methods to create semi-solids, totals, semi-repeating and fade colorways."
