Grieving Racism
God created a world of great diversity and called it good. God shows show no partiality. God's good news of great joy is for all people. God commands us to love our neighbor. We have fallen short of God's holy will for the world God so loves. We lament the many who have been killed because of the color of their skin and the ongoing scourge of racism. We repent of the structures of injustice of which we are a part and the many brutal, personal, lethal affronts to human life and dignity. Christ have mercy. Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy.
Sunday of the Holy Trinity
Though the word "Trinity" is not found in the Bible, God's Trinitarian nature is revealed in the witness of scripture, the mission of Christ, and the life of the church. Today’s reading from II Corinthians includes the apostolic greeting that begins our worship services: "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all." In the gospel Jesus sends his disciples forth to baptize in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. More than a doctrine, the Trinity expresses the heart of our faith: we have experienced the God of creation made known in Jesus and with us always through the Holy Spirit.
