When Things Are Unknown, Follow Jesus' Lead
When the Apostle Paul went to the ancient urban capital, Athens, he faced the
challenge of proclaiming the gospel to city dwellers who knew nothing of either Jewish or Christian tradition. Paul proclaimed that the “unknown god” they worshiped is the true Lord of heaven and earth who is made known to us in Jesus.
When Jesus gave his followers final instructions on the night before he died, he promised that he would not leave them without support or direction, he would send the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, to help them navigate a future that felt very much unknown.
As we are faced with unknowns and as we wonder what the future holds for us, we know that Jesus' call is still the same: "Come, follow me!" We follow, even while sheltering in place, knowing that Jesus has given us the Holy Spirit as well, our advocate and navigator.
