Welcoming Covenant
In the name of God and Jesus Christ, the Hingham Congregational Church
welcomes all who seek to know and worship God, and invites everyone to join
in our mission through participation and leadership of the congregation.
As a community of faith, we take seriously the biblical call to love God and our
neighbors as ourselves, and recognize that, although we are many members,
we are one.
❖ We celebrate the uniqueness of everyone.
❖ We rejoice in our diversity of views and understandings of our shared faith.
❖ We affirm relationships based on love, commitment, and mutual respect.
❖ As is stated in our by-laws, we strive for righteousness, justice and peace.
It is with this spirit and the love of God that we openly welcome all persons,
inclusive of every race, ethnicity, class, age, gender, physical or mental ability,
sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression, and inclusive of any
others, to journey with us as we move forward with the work of this church in the
world.
A craft project for children will take place on the patio.
Please be sure your child over 3 is wearing a mask.

Holy, holy, holy, God the Almighty!
Early in the morning we praise your majesty.
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!
God in three persons, blessed Trinity!
Holy, holy, holy! Saints adore you truly,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim bow before you only,
From the beginning, God eternally.
Holy, holy, holy! Though we know but dimly,
Though the eyes of human kind your glory may not see,
You alone are holy, you alone are worthy,
Perfect in power, in love and purity.
Holy, holy, holy, God the Almighty!
All your works shall praise your name in earth and sky and sea.
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!
God in three persons, blessed Trinity!

*Opening Prayer (in unison). (Rebecca Gaudino, alt.)
God of songs and marvels, old and new, your powerful love for this world continues to astound us. In these last days of Easter, we gather to recall the love that brought Jesus into this world and into our lives, as savior, friend, and brother. We thank you for including us in your household and for trusting us with your work of welcoming all people into the spacious home of your love….
(Silence)
Lord’s Prayer
Our Father* who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
*Please feel free to pray as you wish. We respect tradition — and we welcome images of the Divine that are diverse and inclusive.

Ministry of the Word
Scripture Reading: Acts 10:44-48

Gentiles Receive the Holy Spirit
While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who heard the word. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles, for they heard them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter said, ‘Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?’ So he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they invited him to stay for several days.

In Christ There Is No East or West | |
|
In Christ there is no East or West, in Christ no South or North;
But one community of love through-out the whole wide earth.
In Christ shall true hearts everywhere their high communion find;
God’s service is the golden cord close binding human kind.
In Christ is neither Jew nor Greek, and neither slave not free;
For men and women live in God, and all are kin to me.
In Christ now meet both East & West, in Christ meet South & North;
One Joyous, true community throughout the whole wide earth.
| |
Congregational Commissioning (in unison)
As we leave this place of worship,
let us work to create Christ’s realm of love, justice, and peace.
May we live as the Holy One requires:
doing justice,
loving kindness,
and walking humbly with our God.
Amen.
