PRINCIPAL'S UPDATE

At various times in the past two years Jenny Calvin, a Registered Behavior Technician, has worked on-site at Saint Pius X to help provide support to students receiving ABA therapy services. During her time at our school "Miss Jenny" developed close bonds with both students and staff, and she was inspired to become Catholic. At this past Thursday's school mass Miss Jenny was welcomed into the church and received the sacraments of Baptism, First Reconciliation, and Confirmation. There was a very tangible sense of joy during the ceremony, especially when many of our second and first grade students surrounded the baptismal font during the rite of baptism.

As a mission of the parish, one of the central principles of our school is to evangelize. I am so proud that our school community played a role in bringing Miss Jenny into the Church. I am also profoundly grateful to her for modeling faith and discipleship for our students. A visitor who happened to be in attendance put it perfectly when she summed up the Mass: "The kids will learn to spell and read and do math, but the most important thing that Saint Pius X is doing for the children in the school is bringing the love of God into their hearts. This will ground them and give them meaning and purpose for the rest of their lives."

In Christ,

GOSPEL VALUE SPOTTING

The Catholic faith is an integral part of our daily curriculum. We emphasize Gospel values such as respect, honesty, responsibility, compassion, and teamwork for all students. We have restarted our weekly drawing where classes displaying these values are "caught being good" and win a free dress day on the following week.

This week Mrs. Brumbaugh spotted Mr. Parrish's class showing the gospel value of respect. They were very respectful and gracious to each other while learning to play Capture the Flag. They kept moving throughout the game and showed great sportsmanship. Congrats to Mr. Parrish's class; they will get a dress down day Tuesday!

LATE START

HAPARA PARENT PORTAL

One of the systems we will be using to monitor 3rd through 8th grade student online activity during the school day is Hapara. Hapara also has a Parent Portal to keep parents informed with real time alerts of blocked and harmful websites.

Watch for an email invitation from Hapara with instructions to create an account (noreply@deledao.com).  If you already have an account in the Hapara Parent Portal, you do not need to create a new account.

SPAGHETTI DINNER

PICTURE RETAKES

Picture Retakes are Wednesday, September 25 from 10 am-1 pm. Please make sure to check your email for a link from Derby to view your child’s photo online. Everyone received the email, regardless of whether or not you placed an order. If you do not remember if you placed an order, please email staff@derbyphoto.com

If you cannot find your email link, click here. Your online code is your student’s first letter of their first name and their last name (Mary Smith would be MSmith). The link will allow parents to place new orders for students who were not photographed on picture day.

If you purchased photos on picture day and would like a retake, your child must return their entire original photo packet to the photographer on retake day.

If you did not purchase photos on picture day and would like a retake, please send a note to your child’s teacher. Students without a note from home or their returned picture packet will not be permitted for a retake. The retake photo will be used in the yearbook.

If you were unable to have your child's picture taken prior to school starting, he/she will have their picture taken on September 25th. Order forms will be sent home soon.
