April 22, 2018
Dear LaGuardia Families,
We love starting off our weekend by seeing great shows, like we did on Friday night at the opening reception for the Senior Art Show #4:
Scrutiny and then getting to hear the powerful perfomances at the Spring Gospel Concert. Congrats to all, and also to the musicians and crew from the Show Choir Concert last Tuesday (which was so fun!).
Didn't get to catch those shows? Don't fret, you have plenty of opportunities to see some others. The Spring Musicale #1 is onstage in the Concert Hall this Monday night (4/23) at 6:00 p.m. The first of three in a series, the Musicales showcase the ensemble work of various classes. Tickets will be available for purchase in the lobby. And don't miss the Concerto Concert this Friday, 4/27at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall. Get tickets here.
We're also really excited for the opening of the Spring Drama Festival SDF #2, August: Osage County this Thursday at 7:00 p.m. (Please note that the show begins at 7:00, not 7:30 as was listed in the La! Weekly Bulletin). This Pulitzer Prize-winning play brings us into the three-story home of the dysfunctional Weston family---where we'll be transfixed by their dark, deep and funny secrets. Buy tickets here. (NOTE: Tickets for some performances have already been taken offline. There are still great seats available, so if you can't purchase tickets online, please come to the show and purchase tickets at the box office prior to the 7:00 pm curtain time.)
A final reminder that the
PSAT and SAT test day
for sophmores and juniors respectively is this Tuesday, April 24. The freshman and seniors leave campus for their field trips. You can find details about this day on page 32 of this week's
La! Weekly Bulletin

AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY tells the dark, hilarious and deeply touching story of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose lives have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Midwest house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them. DonorsChoose is a nonprofit organization that allows private individuals to donate to public school classroom projects. LaGuardia teachers post many project requests on DonorsChoose throughout the school year for one simple reason: the NYC Department of Education does not provide many of the materials, technology and other essentials that make LaGuardia great.
In the past three years, 100% of our faculty's requests have been funded by parents and other generous supporters.
DonorsChoose donations are eligible for most employers' matching gift programs.
LaGuardia Students were featured in news coverage of the National School Walkout Commemorating the 19th Anniversary of the Columbine High School Shooting.
The Independent (UK) quoted LaG student
Jonathan Green who "boomed one of the central messages -- and threats -- of the demonstrators to the politicians in Washington and statehouses around the country where gun control legislation remains little more than an intangible concept.
"We're here to say: Now is the time," he said. "Your thoughts are not working and your inaction will not be tolerated anymore."
"Some of us will be able to vote in 2018," he said, to thunderous applause. "Most of us will be able to vote in 2020," he continued. "We will not forget."
And in the NY Times:
