Dear LaGuardia Families,

Happy Mother's Day!

Because so many parents have shown interest in participating in the Youth Mental Health First Aid Training, the SLT Wellness Subcommitte is thrilled to announce they're able to open registration to 20 additional participants. The daylong workshop is this Saturday, May 19, from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. and will be held at LaGuardia. Registration is mandatory and space is limited, so don't wait to sign up! You can learn more about this program-and the great work the Wellness Subcommittee is doing---by scrolling down.

Our next PA meeting is a little later in the month than usual-Wednesday, May 23 at 6:00 p.m. followed by the studio meetings at 7:00 p.m. Besides sharing lots of exciting news and information, we will be approving the 2018/19 budget and discussing plans for next year. Elections for positions on the PA executive board, Student Leadership Team, the Academic Forum panel and representatives for all studios will be held at our final meeting on June 4. We encourage and welcome you all to consider running for a position. It's a wonderful way to be part of the LaGuardia community. Please read on for details and consider joining one of our teams!

We've been obsessively checking the LaG online auction and have been amazed by all the great offerings for bidding-spending a week in an apartment in Cannes! A great deal on a family membership to the YMCA! Over 125 new items have been added since we opened last Monday. In fact, we just added new trips to Napa, Mexico, Tuscany, Rhode Island, the Hamptons and Lake Tahoe! More items will be added during the week, so CHECK BACK OFTEN. The auction runs through Sunday May 20th and will close at 10:00 p.m.

Parents of juniors who are about to embark on the college application process, you don't want to miss the upcoming Academic Forum meeting on May 16 at 6:00 p.m. You'll hear from our Lag graduating seniors as they share their experiences with college applications, audition tapes, acceptances, rejections, choices made, advice, and lessons learned. The panel discussion will include a Q&A.

We've got a relatively quiet weekend ahead, performance-wise, but lots of great shows from all of the studios are coming up soon, so please check our calendar of upcoming events and click here for tickets.

We look forward to seeing you soon.
Linda Hahn and Kat Ramirez
PA Co-Presidents

What is Youth Mental Health First Aid: "Youth Mental Health First Aid USA is an 8 hour public education program which introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, builds an understanding of the importance of early intervention, and teaches individuals how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge. Mental Health First Aid uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis; select interventions and provide initial help; and connect young people to professional, peer, social, and self-help care."

THANK YOU for Your Remarkable Support!
LaGuardia Families Rock!

DonorsChoose is a nonprofit organization that allows private individuals to donate to public school classroom projects. LaGuardia teachers post many project requests on DonorsChoose throughout the school year for one simple reason: the NYC Department of Education does not provide many of the materials, technology and other essentials that make LaGuardia great.

In the past three years, 100% of our faculty's requests have been funded by parents and other generous supporters.

DonorsChoose donations are eligible for most employers' matching gift programs.
