May 20, 2018
Dear LaGuardia Families,
Our online auction wrapped up this evening. Thanks to all who participated, donated and worked on making this a success!
Please join us for our next PA meeting on Wednesday, May 23 at 6:00 p.m. The studio meetings will follow at 7:00 p.m. We have lots of news and information to share-including a vote for the 2018/19 budget and our plans for next year. Elections for positions on the PA executive board, Student Leadership Team, the Academic Forum panel and representatives for all studios will be held at our final meeting on June 4. We encourage and welcome you all to consider running for a position. It's a wonderful way to be part of the LaGuardia community. Please read on for details and consider joining one of our teams!
Our kids are relieved that the AP tests are in the rear view window, so now it's on to finals and June Regents! Please refer to the La! Weekly Bulletin for tutoring and Regents exam schedules (pages 20-23)
As the days of the academic year wind down, all of the studios are preparing for their final shows of the year. The Spring Drama Festival (better known as the SDFs) will conclude its three-play series on May 31-June 3 with their stunning production of A Little Night Music.
Our senior dance students will also hold their final performances on June 1 and June 2. The dancers have been working with six well-known professional choreographers, and the Graduation Dance Concert is always a breathtaking event that showcases their four years of training.
And looking ahead, the Semi-Annual Art Show opens on June 8 at 4:00 p.m. and will feature work from students in all grades and art classes. Be sure to stick around that evening and hear the incredible musicians perform at the Semi-Annual LaGuardia Symphony & Chorus Concert at 7:30 p.m. You can also hear them perform on June 9 at 7:30 p.m.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
Linda Hahn and Kat Ramirez

We have many graduating parents and there is always room for parent volunteers who want to get involved in our school---please consider nominating yourself for one of the many board positions!!
These are the school-wide PA positions ONLY. Each studio will hold their own elections on June 4, the same night as the General PA meeting. You'll hear more about that from your studio reps soon.

iPads for Mr. Fransowie's Classroom
Mr. Fransowie has requested new iPads to provide opportunities, multiple entry points and activities that can be completed by Earth Science students of all different skill levels and learning styles. The new iPads will be used for the remainder of this academic year and in upcoming semesters.
54 Projects Funded This Year...and Counting!
DonorsChoose is a nonprofit organization that allows private individuals to donate to public school classroom projects. LaGuardia teachers post many project requests on DonorsChoose throughout the school year for one simple reason: the NYC Department of Education does not provide many of the materials, technology and other essentials that make LaGuardia great.
In the past three years, 100% of our faculty's requests have been funded by parents and other generous supporters.
DonorsChoose donations are eligible for most employers' matching gift programs.

The experience will offer students a preview into what college life at a premier public university is all about.
There are many reasons your students should apply. Opportunities include:
- taking courses such as "Intro to Engineering," "Business Foundations and Leadership Academy," "Speech and Debate," "Behind the Scenes at the Museum" and "U Code,Girl!" taught by distinguished Binghamton faculty.
- living in Binghamton's modern residential halls.
- meeting other talented high-school students.
- exploring the local community.
- learning about the college admission process.
Although the deadline to submit an application was May 1, we were notified that applications are still open. We hope you'll encourage your child to spend some of their summer learning with this opportunity.
