WORLD KINDNESS DAY
On November 13th, as part of World Kindness Day, we are encouraged to spread kindness like an infectious cold. We want to share it more than usual because studies show when others observe kindness in action they are more likely to carry out an act of kindness, too.
So, imagine if you head out for the day and your neighbor's garbage can has tipped over. Instead of ignoring it and letting the wind make a mess, you pick it up and return it to the corner. Three other neighbors notice and give you a smile and a nod on their way to work.
One of those neighbors notices a stranded driver on the side of the road on his commute to work. He remembers your thoughtfulness and offers assistance to the stranded driver. Several passersby take notice.
At a business office, a woman struggles with a paper jam. She's had a horrible day. The customer has been waiting, but she remembers the stranded driver she passed earlier in the day. The customer lets the office worker take her time. Anyone can have a bad day, but this prevents it from getting worse and may even make it better.
We each have the potential to improve each others' lives through understanding and kindness. Whether it's a friend, family member, coworker, or stranger, our ability to show our humanity should have no limit.

What is the term for a word that is spelled the same way backward and forward?
Palindrome
Palindrome is the term used to describe a word that is spelled the same way backward and forward. This word comes from the Greek words "palin," which means "again," and "dromos," which means "way" or "direction." Palindromes are fascinating because they can be read the same way from left to right as they can from right to left. Examples of palindromes include "racecar," "level," and "madam." Palindromes are not limited to single words, as they can also be phrases or sentences that retain their meaning when read backward. Palindromes are often used for wordplay and puzzles, and they continue to captivate linguists and language lovers alike.

What does "juxtaposition" mean?
Suspension
Separation
Side by side
Juggling objects in place
What does "juxtaposition" mean?
Side by side
juxtaposition Pronunciation: juhk-stuh-puh-zish-uhn
Definition: the act or an instance of placing two or more things side by side, often for the purpose of comparison or contrast.
Origin: The word "juxtaposition" originated from the Latin term "juxta" meaning 'near' or 'beside' and "positio" meaning 'a placing' or 'position'.
Example: The juxtaposition of the old and new architecture in the city created a fascinating visual contrast.
"Side by side" can be considered another way to describe the concept of juxtaposition. It refers to placing two or more things in close proximity, highlighting their differences or similarities. The term emphasizes the spatial relationship and the direct comparison or contrast between the elements being juxtaposed. Whether it's contrasting colors, conflicting ideas, or different time periods, "side by side" captures the essence of juxtaposition by emphasizing the physical placement and the intentional juxtaposition of different elements.

NATIONAL INDIAN PUDDING DAY
National Indian Pudding Day recognizes a cold-weather classic. On November 13th each year, serve up this traditional New England dessert that's sure to wow.
In the seventeenth century, English colonists brought hasty puddingto North America, transforming it. Although they initially made the pudding with wheat, due to a shortage of grain, the colonists eventually used cornmeal. Since the colonists had learned to cultivate maize (corn) from the indigenous peoples, the crop was readily available. The colonists derived the name for Indian pudding from their name for cornmeal - Indian meal. They also replaced the water with milk. For added flavor, cooks add either molasses or maple syrup. Other ingredients they added include cinnamon, ground ginger, butter, eggs, raisins, and nuts.
They then slowly baked the Indian pudding for several hours. Baking transforms the pudding's texture from the original porridge-like quality ofhasty pudding to a much smoother consistency which is more typical of custard.
- Before 1900, most American cookbooks included a recipe for Indian pudding.
- By the 20th-century, commercial puddings with an industrially perfect creamy consistency replaced the popularity of Indian pudding.
- The long cooking time required for Indian pudding did not appeal to 20th century home cooks.
- However, during the autumn holidays, Indian pudding some restaurants serve the dish due to its fall traditions.
- Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream pair nicely with Indian pudding.

Really cool photo of Decatur Street in the late 1930's. You can see the train cars to the far right. This view is no longer b/c of major landscape/structural changes. One of which is the barrier wall/flood gate thingy () put in place by the Army Corps of Engineers to protect the city during storms. Today, a streetcar still rolls down railroad tracks behind that same wall. This image was orig shared by historian, Derby Gisclair.

Featuring Nadine Marissa from AMC's The Walking Dead
One woman from each century has gone to sleep, exhausted from the loss of matriarchal power. The women await the arrival of The Catalyst, and her Oracle, to awaken them from sleep, to begin “The Great Rise.”
Hannah Green, a 46 year-old, newly divorced, African-American & "Z-List Celebrity"actress, sends out a tweet heard round the world, and then walks away from her NYC home - with nothing but her "go bag.." Determined to leave her fractured life behind, but without any true sense of faith, she accidentally wanders into “The Veil:” a space where time moves very slowly.
The power of her social media post, awakens the three original female tropes: The Madonna, The Virgin, and the Whore. We call them: The Divine Feminine. Cared for by ancient scribe Marcus, The Divine Feminine move through “the veil” to Hannah, convincing her that she is, indeed, The Catalyst.
With assistance from the Divine Feminine, and a 1950s Housewife wandering between worlds (fueled by valium & martinis), Hannah travels back through her life, to view the stranglehold patriarchy has had on her, from childhood to the present. Inspired by the time travel, Hannah assumes the role of CATALYST, speaks the Oracle, and awakens the enraged Sleeping Women’s Chorus...
The Great Rise begins...

Friday's Wine School...
At that stroke of just after midnight on November 16, 2023, oenophiles all over France will begin their jubilant celebration in honor of the end of the harvest and the uncorking of the Beaujolais Nouveau. Well over 100 events throughout France will be held with fireworks, music, and, of course, tastings, as “tout le monde” vie to sample the current batch of Beaujolais Nouveau - light, fruit-driven wines made with barely fermented Gamay grapes that are best consumed as soon as possible - literally. But, never fear, there are 3 different quality levels of Beaujolais above Nouveau and these are the ones we get excited about!
The entry-level wines that are simply labeled Beaujolais, are made from grapes grown throughout the Beaujolais region, especially in the south. These also tend to be on the fruit-forward side and are meant to be enjoyed in the first year or two after the vintage. Beaujolais-Villages wines are based on Gamay grapes that were grown in the northern part of the Beaujolais region, specifically 38 permitted villages. And Beaujolais Cru — also called Cru Beaujolais — are grown in any of ten specific northern locales whose typically granitic soils (though they are far from uniform in composition and character) can produce the most age-worthy and complex of all red wines from Beaujolais. So, needless to say, the least expensive wines generally come from the south, and the more expensive and age-worthy wines come from the north. And if this was all you learned about Beaujolais you’d know enough to dive in and start learning by tasting but as always with wine, a lot of the fun is in the details.
We are here to help with those details as we taste different wines from the 3 categories and talk about the terroir that makes them special. What makes Saint Amour so delicate while Brouilly is more structured and complex? What is the difference between a village-level wine and a cru? This is a great tasting to learn about one of our favorite regions and pick up some of the best wines ever to pair with your grateful gathering on November 23rd! THE DOOKY CHASE KITCHEN: LEAH’S LEGACY cooking series celebrates Leah Chase, the “Queen of Creole Cuisine.”
The 26-part cooking series, produced by WYES-TV in New Orleans, was shot on location at Dooky Chase’s Restaurant with dishes prepared by younger generations of the Chase family who have led the restaurant since Leah’s death in 2019.
Viewers will meet Leah’s grandson, Edgar “Dook” Chase IV, who now oversees the restaurant’s kitchen; her niece Cleo Robinson, who joined Leah in the kitchen in 1980; and the restaurant’s newest chef, Leah’s great-granddaughter Zoe Chase. Paired with some of the menus are specialty cocktails crafted by Leah’s granddaughter Eve Marie Haydel, the restaurant’s beverage manager who has updated drink recipes from the restaurant’s earlier days. Granddaughter Chase Kamata narrates. Each 30-minute episode explores a new take on Creole classics and a different chapter of the restaurant’s history.

Derby Gisclair Talks About Mississippi Riverboats
METAIRIE – Derby Gisclair, author of a new book titled New Orleans Steamboat Stories – The Brief Lives of Mississippi Riverboats, will discuss the book at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 28, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon, Metairie.
This event is free of charge and is open to the public. There is no registration.
Steamboats shaped America’s future, its economy, and its culture while expanding trade and expanding the country’s footprint into new territories. This economic expansion was not limited to New Orleans, but also to Cincinnati, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Memphis, Louisville, Nashville, St. Paul, Kansas City, and Chattanooga. A round trip voyage from Pittsburgh to New Orleans that once took six months could now be accomplished in forty-five days. At the same time steamboats made it possible to circulate and disseminate the news and the mail, to spread the various immigrant cultures, food, and music.
The steamboat continued to be the primary form of long-range transportation even as the railroads continued to expand their influence into freight transportation. Newer, bigger steamboats were built and by the end of the 1860s, the cotton trade had recovered and had surpassed their output from a decade earlier.
New Orleans Steamboat Stories contains stories of a handful of the different steamboats and the people who lived and worked on the Western rivers. They are brief in nature as the average life of a steamboat was generally short. But their impact culturally and commercially, esthetically and economically, made a lasting impact on the development of America.
A lifelong resident of New Orleans, S. Derby Gisclair is a member of the Society of American Baseball Research (SABR) and its 19th Century, Minor Leagues, Deadball Era, Oral History, and Pictorial History Committees. He heads the Schott-Pelican Chapter of SABR in Louisiana and is on the Nominating and Selection Committees for the Greater New Orleans Professional Baseball Hall of Fame.
He is the author of several books including Baseball in New Orleans, Baseball at Tulane University, The Olympic Club of New Orleans – The Epicenter of Professional Boxing, 1883-1897, and Early Baseball in New Orleans – A History of 19th Century Play. His most recent book, The Dixie Series, 1920-1958, was released on May 1, 2023.
He is working on a history of horse-racing and racetracks in New Orleans, a history of the New Orleans Pelicans, and a pictorial history of boxing in New Orleans.

The Roosevelt New Orleans, a Waldorf Astoria Hotel, turned on their holiday lights, Waldorf Wonderland, on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 in downtown New Orleans. During the Christmas season, almost every local has made their way through the cold streets of downtown New Orleans to see the lobby of the romantic Roosevelt Hotel.
Faux tree stems wrapped in glimmering white lights stand tall as they hover over guests and nearly touch the ceiling chandeliers. Neighboring the branches are snow-white Christmas trees covered in red ribbons and ornaments. Both decors line the lobby in a perfect, picturesque pattern.
Hence, it isn't hard to understand why Travel and Leisure named the Roosevelt one of the 15 most festive hotels in the U.S. during the holiday season.
“Our hotel guests, New Orleanians and tourists from all over the world come to The Roosevelt at this time of year because it is truly the brightest, most brilliant place to bring out the holiday spirit,” Tod Chambers, general manager of the Roosevelt, said in a news release.
This year, the Roosevelt is bringing back its beloved Christmas tradition on Nov. 28, unveiling 1,600 feet of garland and 4,000 glass ornaments, the hotel announced Wednesday morning.
New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President and General Manager Mickey Loomis will be there to help switch on the ceremonial lighting of over 112,000 lights, the Roosevelt said in a news release.
The hotel will also be offering various options for holiday dining experiences and drink options at the Sazerac Bar and Teddy's Café.
The Sazerac Bar is bringing back their annual holiday drinks, including the Christmas Cookie — a sweet, vodka-based mixed drink — and the Candy Cane, a sugar drink featuring Rumple Minze.

Final Four Rematch: LSU WBB To Face Virginia Tech in SEC/ACC Challenge
Story by Zack Nagy
© Provided by LSU Country on FanNation
LSU will host Virginia Tech in a Final Four rematch on November 30 at 8 p.m. CT as a part of the ACC/SEC Challenge.
The Tigers and Hokies met last season in the Final Four as LSU came from behind in the fourth quarter to clinch a spot in the national championship game. The Tigers trailed by nine to start the fourth quarter but outscored the Hokies by 16 in the final quarter to claim LSU’s first national championship game berth. LSU defeated Iowa two days later for the national championship.
LSU will enter the season with multiple players returning from the program’s first ever national championship team along with a talented list of newcomers that include the nation’s No. 1 rated recruiting class and the top two players from this year’s transfer portal.
Related video
Forward Angel Reese headlines LSU’s returners as the defending Most Outstanding Player from the Final Four. She set the NCAA record with 34 double-doubles throughout the season as a dominant scorer and rebounder. Reese led the SEC in both scoring (23.0 ppg) and rebounding (15.4 rpg).
Guard Flau’jae Johnson is another returning starter for the Tigers who earned SEC Freshman of the Year. In her first year of college basketball, Johnson averaged 11.0 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game. Guard Kateri Poole started in LSU’s final five games throughout the championship run, bringing a defensive physicality to the court while having a knack to knock down big shots for the Tigers.
LSU will also bring back contributors like forward Sa’Myah Smith who was named to the SEC All-Freshman and guard Last-Tear Poa. Both Smith and Sa’Myah played critical and productive minutes off the bench in the national championship win over Iowa.
The Tigers top-rated incoming freshmen class is headlined by guard Mikaylah Williams who was named the 2023 Morgan Wooten National Player of the Year as the top high school player. Forward Aalyah Del Rosario, the nation’s No. 7 rated player, played in the McDonald’s All-American game with Williams and the Tigers also bring in freshmen guard Angelica Velez who was named Tennessee’s Division II-A Miss Basketball and guard Janae Kent.
LSU was active in the transfer portal, adding guard Hailey Van Lith and forward Aneesah Morrow who were ranked No. 1 and 2, respectively, in ESPN’s transfer portal rankings. Van Lith averaged 19.7 points, 4.5 assists and 3.2 rebounds last season, earning AP All-America honorable mention honors while leading Louisville to the Elite Eight. Van Lith and Iowa’s Caitlin Clark are the only two players in the country who averaged at least 19 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists throughout the year. Morrow was a lethal scorer (24.7 ppg) and rebounder (12.2 rpg) at DePaul. Her and Reese were the only two players in the country to rank inside the top 10 in the nation in both scoring and rebounding.

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)
Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining"!
