Good Evening,
Family & Friends of
The Greek Orthodox Church of
St. Demetrios
Why the Nativity Fast Has Been Established

The Orthodox Church prepares its faithful to welcome the Nativity of Christ in a worthy manner by means of a 40-day Nativity fast, which lasts from November 15th - December 25.

Besides generally known reasons, the Nativity fast is also undertaken by Orthodox Christians in order to venerate the suffering and sorrow undergone by the Holy Mother of God at the hands of the scribes and the Pharisees just prior to the sacred event of Christ's Nativity.
Sts. Philemon, Archippus, Onesimus & Apphia
November 22nd
These four Apostles were all disciples of the Apostle Paul, and are mentioned individually in Epistle to Philemon. In the first verse of this epistles, he writes: "Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon our dear friend and fellow worker - also to Apphia our sister and Archippus our fellow soldier-and to the church that meets in your home."
Epistle Reading (11/22/2020): Ephesians 2:14-22
Gospel Reading (11/22/2020): Luke 12:16-21
Sermon on the 9th
Sunday of Luke
Luke 12:16-21
By Metropolitan Sotirios of Pisidia

The parable in today's Gospel is a brief, but powerful story. If every person were to learn from it, millions of our fellow human beings would not die from hunger or poverty. In addition, many rich people would not suffer from agonizing worry and anxiety over their possessions, and maybe save their souls from being lost due to their wealth.
