Domaine Raspail-Ay Gigondas
Dominique Ay, the proprietor of Domaine Raspail-Ay, makes one of the most iconic wines in all of Gigondas, and one the of the world's great red wines. His 46 acres of vines are planted on rugged clay and limestone terraces. The rock formation called the Dentelles de Montmirail loom above to form a perfect backdrop.
Everything about this wine is traditional. A classic blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre vinified in concrete and aged 18-24 months in 1320 gallon neutral oak foudres. Robust and impeccably balanced. Aromas of raspberries, black cherries, fennel pollen, herbs de Provence and hint of cracked peppercorns. The mouthfeel is complex, and warm, with a beautiful interplay of red and black bramble fruits, herbal notes and a marvelous structure that is only hinting at what is to come, if you should decide to cellar this wine. This drinks really well decanted for one hour and enjoyed with a rich meal. Only $46.99.
