Seventh Sunday of Easter

CHRIST IS RISEN!

CHRIST IS RISEN INDEED!

Eastertide is a period of 50 days, beginning on Easter Sunday and ending at Pentecost, when we celebrate the birth of the Church. During Eastertide, we celebrate the Risen Christ and imagine how we might live as Easter people.

UP, UP, BUT NEVER AWAY!

This week, for Ascension Sunday, Pastor Kyle shared a gift he was given by a colleague, a collectible Superman figure. After speaking about several similarities about Superman and Jesus, Pastor Kyle explained how on Ascension Sunday, Jesus went up, up, but never away, because Jesus is always with us, and we have the power of the Holy Spirit's presence inside of us!

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that is taking place among you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you are sharing Christ’s sufferings, so that you may also be glad and shout for joy when his glory is revealed. If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the spirit of glory, which is the Spirit of God, is resting on you.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you. Discipline yourselves; keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour. Resist him, steadfast in your faith, for you know that your brothers and sisters in all the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering. And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, support, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the power forever and ever. Amen.

Each week, the children color the illustrations in their own Bible story booklet as they read a paraphrase of the scripture passage that helps tell the Bible story we are learning about.

In our Bible story this week, we read about how one community of people trying to follow Jesus was having a hard time. There were people in power that didn't like when this community tried to spread Jesus' message and live how He taught. One church leader encouraged and reminded the community that life will not always be hard and to share these difficult things with God. The leader invited the people to trust that God cares about them and will comfort them.

Each week we listen to a book and/or watch a video that coincides with our lesson for connection and enrichment.

This week we watched:

JESUS' ASCENSION

We remembered where we are on the liturgical calendar and how we are now in the season of EASTERTIDE, which is a period of 50 days, that begins on Easter Sunday and ends at Pentecost.

We also talked about how during this season of Easter, we remember how Jesus wants us to live.

We discussed this week's Bible story, and how the Bible passage talked about how the community experienced hard things. We talked about how the Scripture tells the people to trust in God. We learned about what the word TRUST means. TRUST means to have confidence in and believe - we are to TRUST in God and His love and cast all our hopes on Him.

We discussed how the Scripture also reminds us that others have hard times too. We shared ideas of how we can offer help and comfort to people who are having a hard time.

This week, along with our regular Sunday School lesson, we celebrated Jesus' Ascension into Heaven! We learned that we celebrate the Ascension of Jesus on the 40th day of Easter. On this special day, we remember when Jesus went to heaven with God the Father. Even though Jesus is not on Earth with us, He still loves us and cares for us.

As we learned about the Ascension of Jesus, we also colored an Ascension picture!

We discussed how we can remember the Ascension of Jesus. Every time we recite the Apostles' Creed we say, "He ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father."

We have a prayer posters in our Sunday School classroom and prayed the Apostles' Creed together!

In addition to coloring the illustrations in their own Bible story booklets, each week, as time allows, the children will also make a craft that ties with the lesson.

The children made

a cross craft.

The children cut and glued an image to a beautiful cross background to remind them of the Scripture. As the children made this, they remembered how the Scripture tells us to trust in God and that God will support us and comfort us.

"GOD CARES ABOUT YOU."

Each week, as time allows, the children will play a game or experience a fun activity together to help them think creatively about the scripture.

The children made a

fun Jesus' Ascension craft!

The children enjoyed painting Jesus with acrylic paint! After painting, the children glued cotton balls onto a cloud template, then used a hole punch to make holes in the head of Jesus and the top of the cloud and thread string through both Jesus and the cloud. They loved pulling the string on the cloud up to make Jesus disappear into the cloud!

Every week, the children will take home an additional coloring page which has an illustration of a short phrase from our scripture passage. I encourage our parents to color with your children to reflect on the scripture and have an even deeper connection with the scripture and each other!
